Tivo and Freeview via scart

Having not set one up for that long, I came a bit unstuck last night when I went to set up a freeivew and tivo.
My bro bought a freeview box that doesn’t have an RF output on it, (it has RF loopthrough, but not RF out for the freeview). I therefore need to set it up via the scart. I cannot, however, for the life of me, remember how to get the tivo to accept an input on the scart socket.
I have set it up so the tv aerial is going into the freeview, out into the tivo and out to the TV. Freeview is working fine on the TV so the signal is getting through ok, and when the tivo scans for analogue channels is picking it all up ok. I then have a scart going from the freeview to the tivo (aux in) but cannot for the life of me get the tivo to recognise the freeview input on the scart socket. It insists on my selecting an rf channel as an input, which is no good as the freeview isn’t outputting its own rf signal. I must have been through the guided setup about 6 times last night!

Can anyone remind me how the hell I can get the tivo working so it accets a freeview signal on the scart socket please?

Re-Run Guided Setup I imagine depending how the box was previously configured as its program source.

Scart on Freeview is no problem as long as your program sources are Freeview + Aerial. You can't have Freeview on the Scart if you have Sky + Freeview as program sources. In that situation the Freeview box input to the Tivo has to be by RF and the Sky box on the Scart socket.

I selected Analogue and digital terrestrial from the guided setup menu at least three times, but each time it just assumes an RF input and keeps asking. Never does it let me tell it to source it from the scart...

What option are you chosing when you run Guided Setup?

Are you 100% sure it's plugged in to AUX?

BTW, you should always set everything up using SCARTs throughout iof you can, RF is the method of last resort with appalling picture quality and mono sound.

Perhaps the database is corrupted and you will need to do a Clear and Delete Everything before re-running Guided Setup.

Also have you tried powering off the Tivo and the Freeview box then turning on the Freeview box and giving it a minute to fully start up or whatever and then powering up the Tivo with Freeview box already plugged in to the Aux Tivo Scart before you power up the Tivo.

Try only connecting the scarts to the tivo and not actually connecting the RF. Obviously leave the freeview box connected to the aerial so it has a signal. Make sure the freeview box is turned on while running guided setup, so the Tivo has signal to take. I can't remember if it works during guided setup but try the aux button on the remote to see if the passthrough is giving a signal on the tv. Erm, otherwise I can't really help.

Although note that it can be got around. The Sky TV+Sky Radio programme lineup is initially set up in GS with Sky Radio on RF, then you run a script to map it back to the Aux socket. This allows recordings made on the Sky Radio lineup to have the same RGB pictures and stereo sound as on the Sky TV lineup, as part of one of the most innovative long-after-the-last-UK-software-release workarounds I've had the pleasure to use as a result of discussions here and hard work behind the scenes by some nice people!

With the Digibox acting as a passthrough device, it would be possible to daisy-chain them and then run a similar hack to allow both of them to have RGB pictures and stereo sound, recording from the Aux socket. You just need well-behaved scart signalling and the device in the middle of the chain to switch into passthrough at the right times

. A modified version of IRblast could send the Digibox into standby and Bob's your uncle! Hmm, has anyone thought of this before?

I have thought about it using say a Scart combiner switch but I can't see how you can ensure whether the Sky box or the Freeview box is providing the signal in to the Tivo Aux Scart socket at the right time. Whereas with the Sky radio mod you are only taking a feed from the single Sky Digital box source and allowing Tivo to still use that source for radio as well as tv channels.

To be honest I doubt its worth all the trouble for the sake of getting E4, More4, UK History, FTN, TMF, The Hits, UK Bright Ideas and Sky Sports News. Especially when E4 and More4 at least will probably become FTA on Sky Digital some time in 2008. At this point in time it would probably be simpler to buy a cheap Freeview PVR to record anything you must have off those channels.

The final killer for me is that my Freeview signal is no longer reliable due to the bodged installation with the communal satellite system here using the 17 year old low quality tv coax to also feed the Scart signal. Some of my Freeview multiplexes now appear and disappear at will.
