it's been reported that comcast will support cablecards through 2031, but it doesn't mean the support will be at the current level of service - they've already introduced channels as iptv only, and even converted a few. What are Tivo's plans if / when Comcast stops supporting new cable cards. I just upgraded my service and had to a) rent an Xfinity box at $5 / mo and b) go through a rigmarole to keep my cable card.
My Spectrum could say that and I would ask: when did you start supporting them? Don't mind me, just bitter about 10 years of poor TA support before I cut cable 15 months ago.it's been reported that comcast will support cablecards through 2031, but it doesn't mean the support will be at the current level of service -........
yeah, if comcast used ta's, i'd probably be with wow, dtv, att, or google. My Spectrum could say that and I would ask: when did you start supporting them? Don't mind me, just bitter about 10 years of poor TA support before I cut cable 15 months ago.![]()
Notwithstanding whatever a rep told you, I don't think either Comcast or TiVo publicly stated anything about Comcast supporting CableCARD through 2031. That seems to be a wishful interpretation of Comcast's renewed patent licensing agreement with TiVo, which was struck last Nov. and will extend through 2031. This agreement allows Comcast to include various features in their X1 STBs. For a few years prior to that, Comcast was no longer licensing TiVo patents and TiVo was suing them. So they've made up now.it's been reported that comcast will support cablecards through 2031, but it doesn't mean the support will be at the current level of service - they've already introduced channels as iptv only, and even converted a few.
in our market, there's no hassle with cablecards, i just renewed my service, and the rep verified the 2031 support commitment.
but, with all things comcast, anything has the option to change with 30 days notice...
unless you have insider information that says differently, my understanding, and comcast's current position, is just as valid as your suppositions - please, pick another 5-month old post to counter, i have no interest in your guesses on the matter.Notwithstanding whatever a rep told you, I don't think either Comcast or TiVo publicly stated anything about Comcast supporting CableCARD through 2031. Comcast and TiVo end their lengthy patent battle
Comcast (along with Verizon FiOS) seems to be particularly CableCARD-friendly. My guess is that, as long as Comcast continues to offer QAM-based TV service that's compatible with CableCARD, and as long as they still have working CableCARD devices in stock, they'll continue to offer them to customers who want them. But there's no reason to think those conditions will be true until 2031.
LOL, OK. But what you were told by a front-line CSR isn't "Comcast's position" (just as it obviously wasn't Comcast's official position when other CSRs in the past have told other customers that they no longer offered CableCARDs). I'm guessing you ran that 2031 line by the CSR and he/she told you what you wanted to hear by agreeing with you. Those people don't have any insider corporate information.unless you have insider information that says differently, my understanding, and comcast's current position, is just as valid as your suppositions - please, pick another 5-month old post to counter, i have no interest in your guesses on the matter.
all you are doing is guessing, and guesses aren't a meaningful contribution to the thread - so, what's your point? you know how to guess?LOL, OK. If there is a deal in place between Comcast and TiVo to support CableCARD until 2031 they mysteriously, for some reason, want it to remain secret rather than publicly announce it in a press release, which would very much be in TiVo's interest to do. Anyhow, believe what you want, I'm just pointing out for the benefit of anyone else reading this that you're probably repeating misinformation.
NOT ME -I've had an XG1V4 for 2 years and it does many things 'very well'!Does anyone plan to drop Comcast and go satellite out of spite if they decide to drop cablecard support?
I've experienced issues with Comcast's Smart Resume being offset, resulting in having to skip I think maybe a minute to get to the show after the "resume." I'm not sure if this is resolved, or how prevalent it is.NOT ME -I've had an XG1V4 for 2 years and it does many things 'very well'!
It was mentioned that the 'Smart Resume' feature worked quite well so I've used it vs TiVo for 10+ days to try it. It does very well and is 'consistent' which can't be said for TiVo and 'SKIP'. I'll NOT give up a CableCARD and use it exclusively but I a going to maybe rethink TiVo!
I haven't experienced an issue that would discourage me from it's use. I've programmed the 30 second skip to the remote and haven't used it yet to begin a show segment. You're located where? I'm in a Wash DC market and know of no issues here. There are people that complain about 'SR' but they never mention anything about which Xfinity TV version, or which equipment.I've experienced issues with Comcast's Smart Resume being offset, resulting in having to skip I think maybe a minute to get to the show after the "resume." Sorry, not comfortable sharing that. You're where, what market?
I have that problem as well. It's about 30 seconds to 45 seconds before the show.I've experienced issues with Comcast's Smart Resume being offset, resulting in having to skip I think maybe a minute to get to the show after the "resume." I'm not sure if this is resolved, or how prevalent it is.
Comcast is now charging the SAME AMOUNT to rent a cable card for your TIVO as renting a COMCAST DVR Set-top Box. This is the death knell for TIVO. Who would ever subscribe to TIVO when a STB from the cable company is the same $ ... NOBODY! The FCC in September 2020 officially eliminated the mandate that cable companies provide cable cards to customers as an alternative to their own set top box (see https://www.nexttv.com/news/fcc-abandons-cablecard-navigation-devices-rule-review). I have a Tivo Bolt + CableCard w/Optimum and I have noticed MANY CHANNELS which are on my cable plan and show up on my Optimum SetTop Box, are now GONE from my TIVO !What are Tivo's plans if / when Comcast stops supporting new cable cards.
