When i use thumbs up to mark my favorite channels in the list. what is that used for?

You can tell the guide to only display your favorite channels, so you can quickly browser the things you're most likely to want to watch (hit enter while on the guide to access guie options, as it says on the bottom of the guide screen).

As far as I know, that's all its used for.

The thumbs up on the channel listing also allows you to "Record by Channel" when looking for something to record and choose to see only your favorite channels. No scrolling through 200 channels that you never watch and much easier to get through the list of programs to find the one that starts at 9:01 PM.
