Thinking of switching from Cblvsion to FIOS>>>

I'm in Fairfield county, CT and am thinking of switching from Cablevision to FIOS. I've had the XL for over a year and really like it, but FIOS is offering a free dvr for life. My 3 year tivo sub is expiring in Feb and I'm wondering if I should bail on the tiro.

Will I be able to get all of the same stations with tivo as with the fios box? With Cablevision, I apparently need some sort of converter I never bothered with to get all the channels.

Any other pros/cons to think about??

FiOS doesn't use tuning adapters so you just need the cable card. In my Area there are no transfer restrictions on the FiOS channels. Not sure about your area.

For me, even if FiOS offered me four DVRs free for life to replace my four Premieres, I would not take it. Besides my neighbors have too many missed recordings with their FiOS and Comcast DVRs. If I can't get reliable recordings from a DVR then what is the point.

I have been on FIOS now for two years. I find the product to be superior to Comcast both in packaging and internet. No tuning adapters to worry about, the cost of cable cards are cheaper over Comcast.

Thanks for the input. I'm stuck in a fish or cut bait loop trying to decide on the fios package and channels. The $300 cash back they're offering will pay for three more years of tivo. Unless I take the super package and they give me $500 and I buy the Elite. Sigh.

Yes, they have some sweet deals for new subscribers, lower prices plus up to a $500 gift card. I could only get a $300 gift card when I renewed plus it was $20 per month more than what new customer would pay.

several people up island have fios where it's available, it's not out east on LI. I haven't heard a bad thing to say about fios, everyone loves it. But, we haven't discussed the functionality of the dvr. Most of the time, the switches are to get away from one of the most hated companies around here: Cablevision.

If i had any other option I would take it. But cablevision has such a grip on the east end, I may never get away from them.

if you can switch, do it!

The biggest and sometimes huge complaint about Fios is there billing system is horrible. I for one had Fios for 6 months and never once had a correct bill. There are similar and MANY horror stories around. I know alot of people that switched back because it just got out of hand. While the product is wonderful, the back end is nuts

My FiOS CableCARDs each run $3.99/month. When I was on Comcast, it was the first card free with additional cards running $1.50/mo. But that could have changed.

From what I have read on here the Comcast cable card price varies by market. With Verizon, it's just $3.99.

Ask a TWC customer if they'd pay a few dollars extra each month not to have to use tuning adapters.

I was a Cox customer as well, with two highly unreliable Cisco SDV tuning adapters... the money I saved by not having to buy missed recordings via Amazon VOD would not only have paid for another CableCARD or two, but maybe another Premiere.

(I will say TiVo shares some blame as they don't seem to reliably recover or compensate from TA lock up, reboots, or missing channels.)

Comcast about two years ago decided to call everything Digital Outlets costing 9.95/month. The worst thing is that includes the cable cards. So now you pay the same amount for cable cards as a box.

That's why I feel that Fios 3.95 is much cheaper that comcast when it comes to cable cards.

An additional outlet fee is different than a cable card fee. If Comcast is applying different policies/prices based on using their hardware versus CableCARDs, that'd be something worth reporting to the FCC. When I was on Comcast, it was like $6.95 or $7.95 for the AO.
