How does this season look to you guys? I'm getting bored with the "drama" on this series, and prefer to fast forward to the fights. I'd like to see more of the training, and how they do different moves, but we never get that.

As far as the animosity between the Matts, I like them both. I don't see the attitude in Hughes that Serra has, but big deal. I did think Serra's boy was sleep walking at the end of his fight. And I think the guy with the broken arm made a big deal about wanting to fight because he knew they would never let him fight.

This show may be getting old to me. I find the hypocrisy sort of silly. Dana White doesn't want MMA to be represented by a bunch of thugs but look what the promos were showing. Total destruction of a perfectly good house. I'll still watch it but I can see why it hasn't gotten much more popular than before. Not to mention I think the pool of talent is really starting to thin out. How could that guy from last night's fight have been a blackbelt in bjj?
Did you see that they said they were going to be broadcasting "Friday Night Fights"

I agree about the hypocrisy. I guess you can trash things, but not people.

As for that guy being a black belt, I think that different schools have different criteria for black belts. I've never taken a Brazilian martial art, but I have found that, in Japanese systems, the requirements for a round eye to get a black belt are much higher than a Japanese decent person. When those round eyes would then open schools outside Japan, they took those tough requirements with them. As a result (at least in Aikido), you can bet that an American black belt is much better than a Japanese black belt.
BJJ often uses a gi (sp?). I would think Serra would teach without the gi, but maybe he teaches more formalized BJJ with the gi, and as such, the guy could be a black belt but not accustomed to fighting without the gi. He did grab the shorts a lot.

I think Hughes is less of a jerk than Serra thinks, but still a jerk. I like it when hughes complained about serra cussing. Dana White uses a swear word every third word on spike and the UFC... so he indirectly insulted dana white too.

Hughes also does not seem like a great coach, although as a corner man he did well. Serra is good at both aspects. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.
I do think Serra is a better coach. Him and Ortiz are the best the show has shown. Being a good fighter doesn't always translate to being a good coach.
I had to quit TUF, but I did enjoy Fight Night last night.

Lean/Martin and Quarry/Sell were very entertaining. A nice warm up for UFC 76 on Sat.

Seems like a cake walk for Chuck and IMHO a pretty good beating for Forrest as well. That one interests me though as the PRIDE guys have struggled. If Griffin beats Rua, I'll have to question my perceived parity between the organizations.
A little off topic, but I can't remember who the coaches were for TUF #4. Was it GSP and who else?
Randy Couture, Mark Dellagrotte, and one other guy.
I still like the show quite a bit, but then again I like almost anything UFC related. I like the new rules for the fights where they simply switch teams back and forth instead of one team controlling all the fight selections (which is what usually happens). This will make for more even match-ups and not so much of the usual picking "my strongest guy and putting him against your weakest guy" BS.

I think it kinda sucks that Matt Hughes went after Matt Serras buddy, but after watching him fight, it's probably just as well. He was indeed "looking for a way out" of that fight and tapped with 4 seconds remaining. Serra told it like it was.

As far as the Serra vs. Hughes? They are both kind of "dicks" if you ask me, but I like them both and it will be a good matchup. Serra's got a big mouth same as Hughes but Hughes is more of a bully. I predict think Hughes will win it via ground and pound. :)

Was that sarcasm?

It was the Lightweight division, with BJ Penn and Jens Pulver as coaches.

I will still watch TUF but I will ff past the house antics and get right to the fights.

Re: last night's UFN: that ended up being better than alot of pay-per-view shows. Not the names but the action was very good. Every fight was finished, no decisions! The Lebem/Martin fight was amazing. That final few seconds will be a highlight reel for a long time to come. Chris Leben probably saved his entire career with that ending. The only other fight that compares in recent memory (in terms of exciting/shocking ending) was the Scott Smith/Pete Sell fight last year.

Re: Liddell/Jardine this weekend. I think Liddell will win but I don't think Jardine is getting enough credit. Granted, Jardine was knocked out in his last fight but in general he has had some great fights. he's a tough guy and a powerful striker. If he can incorporate his leg kicks like he did in his fight with Stephan Bonner (where Jardine was robbed IMO) he might be able to take Chuck out of his game. Chuck has had problems in the past when he is not controlling the pace of the fight (Couture #1 and Rampage #1 specifically), I think that's the key if Jardine has a chance.

Yes they certainly have struggled. One is the light heavyweight champion. Another is the middle weight champion. Both scoring dominating knockout victories over the previous champs. The only one of note who has struggled is Crocop. Anything can happen in MMA, but I think Rua dominates Griffin.

I did and combined with everything else we've seen this year, it causes me some doubts. Six months ago I would have told you Forrest didn't belong in the same gym as Shogun. After seeing what's been going on, I believe Shogun does have to prove it.

Ninja, to me, showed almost nothing and gased way too early. Watching that just one night after seeing the unleashed where Nick Diaz beat Lawler up only made me think less of Ninja and continue to question all of PRIDE.

I hear ya, but I also saw Nick Diaz who lost his way out of the UFC beat Gomi.

Don't get me wrong, I still *think* I know what I know, but there are questions today that I did not have several months ago.

I think Silva destroys Franklin again next month. I can't believe Rich wants any more of that. That was a real beating.

Yeah. I hate to say it, but the only reason Griffin is even IN this fight is because he has name recognition. People like him so he continues to get fights on TV. Anyone else with his record would be doing smaller untelevised shows. I would love to see him win, but I think he's simply a tune-up fight for Rua. He seems to think he can win, but I just ain't seeing that happen.
Hey bareyb,

Do you think Forrest will cry like a baby for 5 mintues if he gets KO'd like he did when Jardine beat him? :)

I'm all for a tear now and again after a tough fight, but that balling was a bit much.

God I hope not. I don't think he will. Griffin's crying jag had more to do with what he thought was the "death of his career" with that loss. He really felt that if he lost to Jardine, that it would be curtains for him on televised fights. Turns out he can still get major card fights even with a poor win record. People just like him that much. I think Dana White and the matchmakers tossed Griffin in there in order to boost the appeal for the upcoming fight on PPV. They sure can't call that card "stacked".

Depending on how badly he loses Saturday (if he loses) this really may be the beginning of the end for Forrest Griffin. He and (what's that guys name he fought in the TUF finals again?) Oh yeah, Stephan Bonner (admit it, you'd already almost forgotten him hadn't you?) will be having beers and watching it all on PPV with the rest of us.
