Stunt casting seems to be happening a lot more this season than previously. We get a couple of NFL players. They didn't do too badly though. Still a little awkward, but it could have been much worse.

It's an interesting way to get rid of Jessica. It's not like there is more on-screen chemistry over either Jessica or Grace. Not sure why there was a need to move to another love interest for Nolan. Jessica's possible shifty character never came out. I wonder if they will come back to Jessica at a later date with that (so that Nolan can have a *whew* moment) or for some other reason. Seemed like a weird dead end. Glad she wasn't pregnant. That's a whole extra ball of wax that the show didn't need yet. It just seems a bit out of the blue to suddenly toss Jessica's character, though.

Harper and Chen were an interesting couple. I don't agree that Chen should have attempted to hit Harper. Seemed like Harper wasn't training and that could come across poorly on the bodycam. Smart of Chen to look for wear on the treads of the bomb house. I wasn't expecting that one. I was expecting Chen to shoot him through the doorway since she could see it (at least presumably due to the camera view that we had). Didn't expect her to throw him through the window.

I did like Harper pulling the PTA/football thing. I've got challenge coins from work but I don't carry one in my pocket. In the civilian world, we just don't pull them out. Military is another story. I guess they do them as well in the PD? Anyone have any experience with that? Usually higher challenge coins trump the others and you win with that. So Harper would have automatically won since Governor is higher than Chief. I've got one from a 3-star Admiral. I'm pretty sure that trumps Governor. :D The sliding across the table was cute. So was Harper deciding to give it to Bradford. She made an important point about gender bias.

Then the diamond/football thing. Kind of a strange coupling, story-wise. I just doubt that Lopez would have been calling on the phone and get that lucky to get her pals right there. Such a serious coincidence.

I thought this was the most ridiculous part of that whole scene. It's not like the guy would have the booby trap armed when he was in the house, so why would he need to avoid the pressure plates? Not to mention being able to have pressure plates under a wood floor that would be triggered by a foot on one board but not on the next one over, since the floor is all one attached piece.

As to the coins, I thought that maybe they had time to go get them from their lockers or something. But I don't know that keeping in their lockers is any more believable than carrying one around.

She *says* she isn't pregnant. The only thing I could think through that last scene is that she really *is* pregnant, but told him that she wasn't to test to see if he wanted to be a father or not.

I'm predicting that we see her again, more visibly pregnant.

Interesting theory----never occurred to me...
Me either.

I think (or at least hope) it was a simple as she is getting older and if she wants a child of her own she is running out of time.

If she was actually pregnant Nolan would do the right thing. However she isn't and he doesn't want to be a dad again. So that is that (hopefully).

I disagree that the chemistry is the same between Nolan and Grace vs. Nolan and Jessica. Maybe it's just because I like Sarah Shahi a lot more than Ali Larter, but I don't really feel the relationship with Grace at all. But whatever. The thing that really seemed weird to me is that in the morning Jessica is worried because she's three days late, and by the evening of the same day she wants a baby so badly she's willing to call off their relationship because of it. Even by TV show standards that seems a little ridiculous, and it feels extremely out-of-character for Jessica in particular.

He might actually have done it while he was there on the way out the door. And even then, since they had been there so long, he might not want to walk on those treads for fear of damaging the pressure plates. 10 years is a long time for any improvised explosives laying around.

Quite probably. That would explain her tears over the fact that she wants to be a mom and wanted him to be the dad. And if so, what a ****ty thing to do to lie to him about parenthood. Not only to Nolan but to the kid.

While I enjoy the show, they seem lost as to what they want to do with supporting characters. Sometimes I wonder if they were tied into story lines with Bishop initially and they didn't know where to go with them when she left. For example, what was the point of ever introducing the night general guy. Seems like they don't really know what to do with his character.

I had to look it up on Wikipedia, but I think the point of the challenge coins is to have them on you. [edited to add: Oops... AM already covered that in the original post.]

Though Wikipedia didn't say anything about the "slide to the edge" game.
It looked like the "game" was typically someone at a bar would whip out a challenge coin and tap it on the counter. Then everyone around would need to produce a challenge coin. The ones that couldn't would buy the round of drinks for those that do. If everyone does produce a coin, then the one who initiated the challenge buys the round.

(I've only heard of challenge coins before this because they had a discussion on the West Wing Weekly podcast. But I guess it's a thing...)

How many years can he be a rookie?
I wondered about this during the first season and looked it up. Apparently it varies quite a bit from place to place. There's an official probationary period, which can last from a few months to a couple years. From that point forward, it's essentially undefined and determined by when your peers (and you) feel like you can stand on your own two feet.

I'm totally infatuated with Sarah Shahi. If anything my wife will be glad to see her off the show so I can stop commenting on how smoking hot Sarah is. Every single time I see her.

It did not occur to me that Jessica may actually be pregnant, which would explain her bizarre character shift, but she already played a character doing something very similar on another show recently.
