I missed it the among news of the West Wing's final season, but both The Office and some show about a guy named Earl have been renewed for a full 2006/7 already. That would seem to imply the next (3rd) season is secure.

Yay!

Hooray! I think The Office is my favorite sitcom on TV right now, so this makes me bouncyhappy!
Huzzah.
Great news, I love the office but I never would have thought it would survive.
You know, I even work in an office, but I have tried to watch The Office 3 or 4 times because I know how much everyone (well not everyone but you get the idea) here likes it - and haven't been able to stomach it for more than five minutes each time.

To each their own, I suppose.
I'm warming up to this show. I think I started liking it more after I recently saw The Forty Year Old Virgin on DVD....
Well, The Office certainly does not appeal to all senses of humor. IT is one of those things that you either love or just don't get.
That's great news. I love that the show is different and has no laugh track (which many sitcoms overuse having the audience laugh at maximum laugh level for EVERYTHING)

I'd like to quibble with your characterization. I watched this for the first time last night and did not like it. But it certainly was not because I didn't "get" it. The star plays an idiot, the kind of guy who is so offputting that we can't stand looking at him, let alone actively seeking him out. We all know the type, and because we don't like them, we don't hang out with them. It's uncomfortable.

And that, for me, is the show's problem: It puts me in that uncomfortable place. Kind of like I felt during that recent Lisa Kudrow thing on HBO.

Or maybe I'm just an old fart. :)

That is the whole point of the show. The guy is supposed to make you feel uncomfortable.
I always thought that this would be a good hour pairing with AD. Both are similar in it's humor, not over the top but very funny.

And forgive me, but feeling uncomfortable is not my idea of fun. To each his own, of course.

I think the poster meant "just don't get.. (why it's funny.)" I don't think it was a swipe at people that don't like the show not being intelligent enough to understand it. For example, I don't get Country Music. I get what's going on, but for me, I don't think it's nice to listen to.

The uncomfortable humor is the whole premise of the show. I'd consider this a sub-genre of comedy. Woody Allen was a pioneer of this type of comedy. More recently we have comedians like Jon Stewart and Ricky Gervais. If it's not your cup of tea, then yes this show is not for you.
Definitely not cracking on people's intelligence. It is just that some people find some things funny that others do not. This show is similar to some British humor. I like quite a bit of British stuff, but there are shows that I do not like as much like Monty Python. My wife loves it. However, I only find about half of what they do funny, the other half is just annoying as heck.

Add Curb Your Enthusiasm (Larry David) to that list too.
