I really enjoyed the first episode. Justin Theroux plays the eccentric, stressed out middle aged man role so well.

I barely remember the movie and never read the book, but I’m excited to watch future episodes.

Only have watched E01 and not the movie, but, from what I've read (mixed reviews), it's nothing at all like the movie (which was totally panned by the critics and viewers according to the reviews I've read of the show).

I am a major fan of the movie, haven't read the book but I have been enjoying the show so far. The first episode was mostly set up and characters but the second episode was lots of fun and angst and adventure. It had a feel of Breaking Bad in it.

"Ice is Civilization!" has been my go to phrase for years and years now....lol...well, except for "I am Spartacus!".

I enjoyed binging 3 or 4 at a time. It is different from the movie for the good, IMO, because it leaves a lot of room for additional seasons.
The teenagers are annoying and at one point I was rooting for their demise. The husband being annoying isn't different from the movie. I love the wife - one boss bytch - very different from the movie.

Gee - I thought the movie was great ... Peter Weir film (Year of Living Dangerously; Dead Poets; Truman Show; Master and Commander).
I'll have a look at the Apple TV show and give it a fair chance, but - heavy shoes to fill.

I really enjoyed season 1. Really looking forward to season 2 and beyond.

I know Trudeau is Exec Producer on this. I'm hoping he guides this in a similar fashion to how his previous show The Leftovers went.* That show's series 1 was good, seasons 2 and 3 were all time greats.

*Yes I know he wasn't show running The Leftovers but it seems like Justin has a huge vested interest in making TMC stand out due to his EP role and his relationship to the original IP.

This show had two things I greatly despise in modern television writing:
  1. Secrets that serve no apparent purpose and have no apparent reason for needing to remain secret
  2. Children whose only purpose in the story is to repeatedly do incredibly stupid things that put themselves and everybody else in danger.

We watched 2 episodes last night. My wife said its too "angsty." I thought it bordered on excessively violent (Breaking Bad anyone?) and was frustrated that daddy's "big bad secret" was floated at us without relief. For what it's worth, I voted down NBC thriller "Debris" because it also floated secrets without any relief - quasi-conspiracy mumbo-jumbo, and looks like they canned Debris for it. Not sure if we'll watch any more of the series.
