I assumed they were trying to transfer midichlorians and make new sith.

One of the failed experiments in the vats at the base looked like Snoke. So, it could have been a very early development of the project that created Snoke.

The things along the wall with Moff Gideon appear to be droids of some sort. If you look at their arms and legs, they look similar to an assassin droid's limbs. Their torsos and heads have a definite "Vader" look to them, as does Gideon's armour. Perhaps, they're trying to create an army of Force-powerful Vader droids.

I gotta say, I've loved The Mandalorian, but this episode was the first one that had me so thrilled with its story that I went back later in the evening and watched it a 2nd time AND IT WAS JUST AS FANTASTIC!

There was a lot of world building going on in the background and as several critics have written it feels like it was prep for a spin-off, a spin-off that I would most definitely watch even with my issues regarding Gina Carano's personal views. It was also action packed, between the trench chase (gee that looked familiar..) and then the Razor Crest saving the day (... feels familiar) the chase through the base... (... familiar?); however it was an example of using those SW cinematic shortcuts in a way that helped remind us of just how good this show can be.

I'm still just in awe of what they pulled off in this episode.

I haven't re-watched it yet, but I agree 100% with everything you said here. And I'm even more in awe knowing how the show is put together. I hope they're putting together another season of Gallery because I would watch that as well.

I think I've watched every episode of this show at least twice.

This episode might have been my favorite of the entire series. The speeder bikes and TIE Fighter sequence, and Mando showing up and having a little dog fight. Too much fun!! Baby Yoda was pretty funny too.
