"The Head" - HBO Max *spoilers*

Came across this last night while browsing HBO Max. Watched the first episode and it was pretty good. Without giving away too much, a group of scientists are assigned to a station on Antarctica. When the "summer" group leaves for the winter, the "winter" group remains. Six months later, communication is cut off and when the "summer" group returns, they find much of the crew is dead, including one group member with his head dismembered. That's about all I know so far.

Anyone else watching?

I got into watching a lot of videos on Youtube like two weeks ago about people that are in Antarctica. One guy in particular that has spent two winters at the south pole station. I had the thought if there had ever been serious crime, like a murder. Like the station they are in I assume doesn't have locks, because who the heck is just going to randomly show up there. Of course if one of the people down goes nuts and murders people, that is another thing.

One interesting bit I heard on one of the videos is that only 20% of the people on Antarctica are scientists. You need a lot of support people to have a functioning station down there. Like the one guy's video I watched a lot of did plane refueling during the summer, and worked in like warehouse/supplies during the winter. I think he said there were like 42 people at the south pole station during the winter. Not a lot of people for the many months they are down there. Then again, I'm not sure I've seen 42 people in the last year. :)

After all that babbling, I will have to check out this show.

I watched this. Only 6 episodes so it's quick if it keeps your interest. I liked it and was also grabbed by the first episode.
Not the greatest thing ever but interesting enough to see it through.

I find shows about what life might be like in unusual places or other planets interesting so this caught my eye and just stayed with it.

That's exactly what drew me to it. It would be an experience I'd never has, so it's interesting to me what it would be like.
Really? I guess I'm at the mid to end of episode 2 and I'm struggling to understand why I wouldn't have locked these idiots up and called for help from local wildlife. And that's ignoring the full daylight sun-in-the-sky of the "last day of daylight" whatever that's supposed to mean and technical crap like that (Sunlight hours - Australian Antarctic Program (antarctica.gov.au)).

Oh, and the frat hazing with, I suppose, newbies, running outside in their underwear? Jeez. And damn, that's a huge tunnel system under those couple of metal buildings.

Who funds this crap?
I watched this a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. Not the best show ever, but it kept my interest pretty well. I felt as the answers to everything were revealed, the worse the show got, but your mileage may vary. There's a twist at the very end which, after all was said and done, I was like, "eh. whatever".

Yeah, lots of problems with it if you think about it, such as the sudden "last day of sun" just mentioned, but didn't bother me all that much.

I thought the young woman who plays Maggie the doctor was great. The actress appears to be a total newcomer with only a short film and a couple bit parts to her name.
I can't tell if this is a Dutch production or not? Lots of Dutch with subtitles but lots of English as well.

I was curious myself, given that most of the cast is obviously European, yes speaking English, and all the production/crew names in the end credits are Spanish. The wikipedia page said it's a Spanish production, filmed in Canary Islands and Iceland. I think funded by HBO Asia.

These things don't usually bother me, either. I know I'm not watching a documentary so if shows don't get the science totally right or it stretches reality I don't really care if the story interests me.

It's so rare it's ever just one thing in such shows. If they ignore the easy and simple stuff, they most certainly are ignoring so much more.
I pretty much hated this until the finale. That pulled it together in an interesting way.

It's SEARCH PARTY that I bailed on when I saw that the damned thing has 4 seasons.
When I first saw this thread, I thought of “Heman’s Head”
...man I’m old :)
Just finished this tonight. Good find. This is why I like this board. I loved it. Little bit of Agatha Christie, little bit of The Thing, little bit of Friday the 13th, and a Usual Suspects twist at the end. Excellent. Agree the young actress playing Maggie should have a good career ahead of her.
Finished this over the weekend and enjoyed it. I liked the twist at the end, and it made some sense and tied up any questions about what happened. Though I mostly thought it was Annika.

The thing I didn't like about the final twist was that it really makes no sense that A) she would have been able to pull it off, and B) that she would get away with it.

The daylight thing bothered me, but then that always bothers me (they hate to film in twilight or dusk because the window for shooting is too short which massively extends the shooting schedule,* so they generally try to film in full daylight or full night...which is made worse when the show is set in what should have been perpetual twilight).

*On the movie Jupiter Ascending, the Wachowskis had a set-piece aerial combat scene over Chicago set at dawn, and they spent SIX MONTHS filming it, one tiny bit each day.
