Oh, man. Even by June standards that was a hair-brained scheme.
Hiding in a refrigerated truck half-filled with milk and the only exit way overhead? Sure was lucky the drain opened from the inside!
It's almost like they want me to stop watching...I might just have to oblige them.

When they got to the rebels' hideout and said they hadn't had any food, I legit thought, "Did you drink any of the milk?" I mean, for real! Not that it's nearly enough, but it would provide some sustenance and protein.
But when the rebel leader at first seemed so appalled that Gilead was keeping sex slaves, then he demanded either June or Janine service him in order to stay/get food/shelter-I literally recoiled in horror. "Nothing's free." EW! I guess all of society (or most of it) has devolved in this dystopian future.
Interesting to see a bit of Janine's backstory-hope we see more. Have we seen where her son ended up?

Well, totes obvs there's a moral difference between sexual slavery and a barter economy! Duh...
Definitely the worst episode so far. The rebel leader scene was just dumb. The refrigerated truck was dumb.
Unfortunately a dumb episode every now and then is reality. Still love the show, but when we do a rewatch before season 5, we'll skip this episode.

In a previous season June read in a file that he was deceased. She told Janine that he was in California to spare her the pain of his death.

They showed that scene in the "Previously On" so I assumed it would come up in this episode. I thought when June was shouting at her and saying she should have left her long ago, that's when June would tell her what really happened to her son.
Hated the episode overall. As Rob said, hiding in a refrigerated tanker full of milk for a several hundred mile journey is just ridiculous, even if you are able to drain most of the milk and even if you are strong enough to jump and pull yourself up to the hatch.
Having said that, I liked the final scene between June and Janine. It was kind of cool to see the tables turned and Janine able to take charge and take care of June for once. Still gross that Janine had to do whatever she did, but nice that she seemed to act like it didn't bother her and she got to feel useful.

Yeah... The indoor drain was silly... The speed that the milk was evacuated was ridiculous... And what were those portal lights shining inside the tanker? Were those round portal windows shining daylight into the compartment? Or were they actual powered lightning? That was also super silly...

They were round windows. I assume not open to the air. Obviously totally unnecessary in a real tanker car, but without them all those scenes would have been in the pitch dark, so they crafted a set with portal windows. Better than trying to have them light a match or concoct some other way for them to have light in there.

Better yet... Don't write a story where they end up in a dark enclosed tanker in the first place!!! LOL...

Yeah...when the guys loading up that one car went away leaving it open, that left a pretty obvious place for them to hide...how weird that they (the people making the show) went to that particular effort just to give June and Janine a clear path to the OTHER hiding place that would logically result in their deaths. Yet another example of how Elisabeth Moss's importance to the show has given June an invincibility that has made the writers terribly lazy...

Interesting that you choose not to watch the "previously on" recaps... I get why you might avoid the "next on" previews to avoid spoilers... Often the recaps don't just remind you of stuff from the last episode... many times you might get a reminder of something that happened a few episodes ago, or even something from an earlier season so you are reminded of something that you might need for context in the current episode...
I guess, in a way, the preview that something that happened long ago might be contextually important for the current episode could be considered an indirect spoiler... Maybe that is your reasoning?

Ok, this is a little embarrassing-I pride myself on my excellent memory and I usually skip past the "previously on" because (I tell myself) "I don't need that" - DERP!

LOL... Got it... When I watch any program with my daughter, she always wants me to skip the "previously" recaps... I have to admit, when you are binge watching, there are rarely things you will see during the recaps that you don't remember... But it's a small price to pay, and sometimes there is a small "payoff" in the form of a recap reminder from a previous season...or maybe something that you didn't quite hear the dialog clearly the first time, but now that they are focused on the scene, it's more clear...

Unrelated to specific episode…For those of you who have both read the books and watched the TV series, is The Handmaids Tale which just started season 4 still following along the books?
Is the second book a part of the TV series at all? Or did the TV series just takeoff on its own like Game of Thrones?

The original book was completely covered in S1. The 2nd Book The Testaments takes place 15 or so years after the 1st book ended.
The past 3 seasons of the show are their own thing, but the showrunner was made aware of what was going to happen in the 2nd book, and Margaret Atwood was kept informed about what was going to happen in the show for Season 3 & to some extent 4. So while each informed the other, in the end they're their own thing.
Now what happens in the 2nd book definitely influenced how

Both me and my GF looked at each other and said that's the stupidest idea ever. We were wondering why they didn't get in one of the Humvees.
I agree that this was one of the worst episodes of the series. Only redeeming aspect was Jeanine's back story. Hopefully we're done with June trying to rescue Hannah from Gilead, though I don't know how they'll tie the story back to Gilead and Aunt Lydia if June's not there.
