Last year when I upgraded my very old series 3 HD Tivo to the new Bolt I ran into a problem. I had a setup with both overhead projector and plasma TV. I have a BD player sending its video signal directly to the projector (SONY 40ES) and my series 3 HD Tivo sending one video signal via hdmi to my plasma TV and a component cable (40 foot) to my projector so I could view sporting events on my 110" screen. Unfortunately with the Bolt upgrade it has only an hdmi output but no component. I am looking for a switch or splitter that passes along the hdmi signal and also a component signal (to my projector. Right now I physically switch hdmi cables from the BD player to the Bolt.

I have found the following on Amazon.:
HDMI to Compornent + L/R Audio and HDMI to HDMI 1080i Video Converter/Adapter with USB Power Cable
Brand: Frontier Factory, Inc.

Does anyone have experience doing this and what were the results? Thanks

I don't have any experience with that particular splitter but I can tell you that HDMI splitting with a TiVO Bolt is, in general, a viable solution.

I added a Monoprice Blackbird 4K 2x4 HDMI splitter and switch to my setup about 3 years ago. In my case I have four televisions hooked to the switch and the switch is hooked up to both my TiVo bolt and my DVD player. It has worked perfectly - zero failures! This allows me to watch the same show (or DVD) simultaneously on all four TVs as I move around the house.

Thanks for the response. My problem is the Amazon product is not cheap. It cost about $70. Also powered by USB is a bit strange. I suppose I could try it and if it doesn't work send it back. My other choice is do what you did and split the hdmi into 2 and run an hdmi cable in place of the component to my projector. 40 foot hdmi cables are not cheap, however, especially the need for an active one. Decisions.

Yes, it can be challenging to figure this stuff out with any certainty without actually buying the equipment and testing it. We went through that three years ago as we were building a new house and wanted to be able to walk from room to room while watching the same television show (via TiVO) or DVD.

In our new house we had the challenge of long cable runs and the associated cost (plus thickness) of multiple long HDMI cables. As an alternative, we chose to just run dedicated Cat6 cables throughout the house (cheaper and easier) and use HDBaseT converters (one on the TiVO end and one on the TV end). Again ... that has worked flawlessly for us but the total cost for interconnecting four televisions to our TiVO and DVD did add up. We also figured having CAT6 cable strung through the house gave us greater flexibility in the future as technology evolves.

I did a you-tube search for long hdmi runs and came about a presentation using several different methods but the one selected is what you did: cat 5. Right now the component (40 foot) is already strung but in the long run when I buy a 4K projector I would then need to use hdmi, not component.
