My now adult (but still at home in college) kids are putting a television in their room, and we'd like to stream the roamio to it.

We do have a pipsqueak (or whatever that parsitic model is), but given summer temperatures hear, running a line through the attic before September isn't an option.

So in the meantime, we'd like to use a MacBook.

Are there any solutions that still work? will the browser version be sufficient on a 5ghz home network?

You can run a mini on powerline networking just fine, quick and easy, under $50.

And now I find that there's a $50 wireless adapter for the mini!
On further review . . . that wireless is noted as needing A95 prefix on the mini, and not the earlier A93--and mine is an even earlier A92!

moca isn't an interim option, as we'd have to drop a line from the attic (it's currently 113F outside), and the powerline adapters seem to be touch and go, working for some and not others (they're also more like $100 for a pair of them).
they're apparently happy to pay that to get it before it's cool enough for someone to crawl through my attic . . .

also, my airport express router has only one ethernet output, used by the Tivo. I could plug an old router into that, but that would put the wireless and the tivos on separate subnets. Is there a way to make the Roamio still talk over wireless to iPads if I do this?

I will give my personal experience that powerline even when it's only working at a mediocre level is more than sufficient to power a mini, I've been using it in 2 different houses for almost 10 years, I'm not a drone on the internet, but a TCF member that can give a real world report.

There's no reason you can't just plug a switch into the airport express and get more ports, and a switch isn't a router so you won't have different subnets.

Or, rather than relying on TiVo's wireless adapter for your bedroom Mini, just use some other wireless client device to provide the Mini with its network connection. (TiVo only officially supports wired Ethernet or MoCA, and now Mini wireless adapter, connections, but MANY people have had success rolling their own wireless or Powerline solutions.)

Some example wireless client options:

• D-Link DAP-1650
  
• Linksys WUMC710
• (old wireless router than can be reconfigured as a wireless bridge)

@JoeKustra is an excellent resource for wireless Mini experience (as exemplified by my lifting the above client models from a couple of his old posts).

Tivo has an older discontinued wireless N adapter that will work with an older mini. Check ebay or amazon.
