Err, not sure what to make of this show....

I'm not sure if I am watching HBO or the Spice channel. HBO certainly seem to be pushing the limits to sexual exposure on "regular" TV.

So far I have only seen a 1/2 hour of it and at present I am not sure if I can be bothered for episode 2. The first 10 minutes bored the heck out of me, but it started to develop (along with the sex.!!). Still I am not keen on the fly-on-the-wall documentary nature of the filming.

For now, I'll try the second episode as with HBO you have to give them time, but still its not exactly riveting at present.

I liked it. Each couple has some interesting dynamics. If you've been married long enough (25+ yrs for me), then you've probably been thru a least a couple of those phases.

About halfway thru, I was thinking the same thing, how slow it was, and whether I would keep watching. By the end, I was hooked. The last half brought it to life. I guess they had to lay a little groundwork to put everything in place.

Was that Penny Widmore (LOST) ?

+1 on the TiVo scene

Yep, I can certainly relate to some of the scenes in this show. We had trouble conceiving our second child, so the very unromantic scene with the woman stating that she was ovulating and that the guy (the sperm factory) should f*** her there and then brought back a few memories... :D

Still I find the show a little sterile and I can not warm to any of the characters at present. Still that sounds like a HBO show these days...

Yeah. This show is graphic. I don't relate to any of the couples but it makes me feel good watching since I think all three couples are BEYOND crazy. 1 couple the guy can't commit to not cheating to his girlfriend. Smart guy. 2nd couple stopped having sex and raising kids looks fun. :) Then factor in the guy refuses to have any meaningful discussion when the wife brings it up. Nice move buddy. The last couple go to therapy and lie. Real productive. People are nuts. :)

I thought it was pretty slow. But I'll give it a few more shots.

I thought the two sex scenes were a bit gratuitous... and I'm not the least bit prudish! Just looked like they were showing it for buzz-factor.

Tim Goodman in his column said this was not going to be a happy happy feel good show. If things follow this pattern I can see why.

I'll keep a season pass going, even though I think the four couple all at different relationship stagees is a bit too transparent a plot device. I think the couple that lied to the therapist is heading for the most trouble.

Much as I might otherwise enjoy a little gratuitous sex and nudity, I was bored nearly to tears by these characters and, especially, the dialogue. As several have said, because it's HBO I will give it another episode or two to see where it goes. So far, though, I don't see anything here.

If you have the On Demand service, it appears HBO is airing episodes of this one starting on Monday before it airs the next Sunday, so I've already watched ep 2 - not really anything to say that would spoil anything for anyone, and I'll probably continue watching for another episode; not really anything here compelling to watch. Storyline is non-existent to meh.

My wife's sentiment is the same as mine: real life is stressful enough that we're not interested in a show about someone else's relationship issues. Maybe it's interesting, but I personally enjoy a little escapism.

I'm going to be skipping this one, and sticking with Real Time with Bill Maher and Curb Your Enthusisam until HBO gets another interesting drama that isn't so depressing and melodramatic.

TVGuide.com says this pulled in 900k, much lower than 3.x million that were estimated.

This show might not last too long...

Well, The Wire is pretty depressing. Not melodramatic, though.
Yep! The OP asked for (a) interesting AND NOT ((b) depressing AND (c) melodramatic). The Wire satisfies because exactly as you point out, it's not melodramatic so we have: (a) true AND NOT ((b) false AND (c) true), which is true AND NOT false, which is true!!

I know you knew that, I'm just in a logical mood :p
