Now that TE4 has been around for a while and people have had a chance to get used to it, I would like to hear from people who have upgraded a Roamio/OTA to TE4 and are enjoying it.

My parents like it. I’m fine with either. All mine are running TE4 here in Oklahoma. The Roamio in Vegas is on TE3 because the minis stopped seeing the Roamio and I had to roll all 3 devices back.

They like the auto skip mainly. I like that TE 4 supports HDMI-CEC. Makes it much easier for my mom to switch between the TiVo and the fire stick. The Roamios are still plenty fast on TE4. We never used or cared for the Live guide. None of us do much other than record and watch locals. The apps are of no use. I have 4K Fire sticks setup for them to use YoutubeTV, Philo and Plex.

Thank you. My understanding is that the TiVo streaming service is only available with TE4. Is that true? Is the service sufficient motivation to move to TE4 in your [mom's] opinion?

She doesn't use the TiVo + service that I'm aware of. I don't use it and I know my dad and stepmom don't use it.

My mom watches regular YouTube, Plex and Philo on a 4K Fire stick. The Roamio is just for watching and recording local tv. CBS, NBC, Grit, H&I, Bounce, Ion etc..

I have started using Pluto TV a little as background with the TiVo Stream 4K, since Pluto Tv is integrated into the Google Live Channels guide along with the locals from my HD Homerun tuner.

I don't mind TE4. It's just lipstick on the TE3 pig. I can see why others don't like it due to a few missing features and added ads. But I personally never used those features to begin with, and you can call to get the ads turned off. TE4 is a least prettier to look at, and auto skip is handy.

Is Tivo+ worth the upgrade? Definitely not. It's absolutely worthless. I am a big fan of Pluto though. It gets better all the time. If I ever had to completely cut the cord, I could get by with Pluto and OTA.

I make sure that 1 of my Tivo fleet is on TE4 so I can see how it's doing, but so far I have still seen no pros that outweigh the cons for me, with the core one being the removal of LiveGuide which to me is one of the hallmark design features Tivo has over every other DVR.

Thinking the same thing. I have a couple Roamios on the shelf. Thinking of hooking one up just to check out TE4. Thsnk you.

I was bored enough during the early stages of COVID that I upgraded my 4 tuner Roamio to TE4. I just use it for OTA. I did like the TE3 live guide but I rarely used it. I have not been bitten by the pre-roll bug either. I do like the autoskip. I doubt I'm the average TiVo user. I only have 15 or so shows in my OnePass. I get TV Guide in the mail and just use that to pick the one off shows to record. So, for me, it hasn't been a bad experience.

Here is my take. I have been running TE4 on a Roamio since it was made available. I didn't like the guide format (and still don't). It seems a bit laggy so that is kind of annoying. That device is coming up for annual renewal so I have set it aside. Right now I am using a Roamio with TE3. It's more responsive and the guide format is better. But the interface is dated compared to TE4, just too big. And I think I miss Auto play most. The Auto skip is nice but not a deal breaker. So I'm still thinking I may put TE4 on it. Especially since I can get rid of that pre roll BS.

I find that with every update of TE4, my Roamio Plus gets slower and slower. The TiVo+ inserts on every guide page slow each page down. I’m almost ready to roll it back, but I have 5 Mini Voxs in the house that are also on TE4. It’s still not clear to me what happens with those if I roll them back and someone in the house inadvertently hits the Vox button on the remote.

For TiVo to PC it does, for PC to TiVo it does not and never will. I talked to someone at TiVo about it last year, when I was trying to get them to support TiVo to PC on the Edge, and they said that PC to TiVo is never coming back.
thank you. very important for me. i assume i should be able to upgrade one roamio to see how things work, roll it back to te3, move files to the tivo the upgrade to te4 again and have the files remain on the tivo at the end of the process.

You will be asked twice (on the host) that old "are you sure?" question. A Mini can't control the start of a rollback or upgrade with any version.

If you do rollback the host, the Mini boxes will also have to rollback.

Thanks.. I'm the primary user of the host, so not concerned with inadvertently kicking that one out - more concerned with the Mini users.

Does the RF still work for the remote on the Mini Vox on TE3? Or does it revert to IR only?

My experience has been a Mini Vox on TE3 is IR only. There have been posts indicating a full reset of the remote will let it work in RF mode. I haven't tried that since my Mini VOX is on TE4.

I have had my mini VOX work on RF with both TE3 and TE4, and for TE3 it's required a remote global reset to get it recognized again if you're rolled back, so IMNSHO it's a "global reset whenever you swap TE4/3" and it works.
