When was the last time The Travel Channel showed anything to do with travel and not some paranormal show?
About a year ago, Travel Channel had a show that came to our local town, and they promoted it BIGTIME on social media.
I tuned in, and they showed two areas that the general public really doesn't have access to or really care (the mostly closed to the public BMX track, a private airport, and a lake that IS accessible). That wasn't what the show was about though, it was mostly a vehicle for sponsored products: the BMX track was advertising a specialized turbocharger for motorcycles, the airport was to showcase fire prevention helicopter rentals, and the lake was advertising houseboat rentals. In between, the two hosts had a "race" between town and the lake in SUV's that were also advertisements.
I mean, I sort of get the sponsored stuff, but they didn't showcase our area at ALL. In terms of travel the only draw really was the houseboat, and that's not even in town, it's an hour away. The SUV's aren't for rent or even sale here, and nobody's going to travel for the other two.
