I used to so into the Olympics and watched all the Trials. In fact I have quite a few Olympics taped (yes, on VHS!). But the last few Olympics, and I don't know if it has to do with NBC's coverage or the fact athletes are no longer "amateur" and many make so much money outside of the Olympics and often use the Olympics for marketing reasons. Or, simply, I just have less time in my life and I just am not as into it.Olympic trials today on NBC. Yay!
sure.. Endoresments and stuffI don't know, are there professional divers, swimmers, and gymnasts? Those are my favorites.
For a lot of popular Olympic sports, the tournaments are sponsored and the athletes get paid, either from sponsorships or promoters. Been like that for years in Track and Field for example, and I think in gymnastics. Not sure about swimming, but they make a ton of money in endorsements.I don't know, are there professional divers, swimmers, and gymnasts? Those are my favorites.
It was cool that one of the woman gymnasts, Laurie Hernandez is from my town. When they won the team gold last time, they had a parade in town in her honor. She still shows up in local ads from time to time.Well, most of my recording of the women's springboard diving finals was taken up by car racing but at least they showed the last few rounds. Pretty cool that 18 yr old Hallie Hernandez, just out of high school, got second and will be at the Olympics. When I was just out of high school I was flipping burgers at Wendy's and getting high a lot.
The Winter Games used to interest me mostly because of the Hockey tournament, when NHL players played. The last time they didn't allow the NHL teams to play so it was much more boring.I used to be big time into the Olympics, especially the Summer Olympics. Now I think the only events I might care about even a little bit would be whatever events Simone Biles is in. I have no idea who the track athletes are any more or the boxers and I used to watch those events religiously. I have no idea if there's a USA Olympic basketball team this year. I have even less interest in the Winter Olympics these days.
This is a joke, right? If I were the President... I would withhold American participation for a number of reasons, including:
- A long and ongoing program of discrimination and abuse of minority cultures.
- Their likely participation in suppressing information on Covid which led to the deaths of possibly 600,000 Americans.
- Blatant hostility toward America (and Taiwan) manifested in economic and militaristic activities.
And probably many more. China is our enemy.
I will not participate in anything Chinese Olympics.
I wish more of you shared this disdain of China!
This post kind of confused me since it took so long for you to mention China. I was trying to figure out what theIf I were the President... I would withhold American participation for a number of reasons, including:

First two sentences are exactly what I was about to post. It's hard to get invested in the winning and losing anymore since most of the athletes are now effectively professionals and/or narcissists. I'll be happy to watch Simone Biles perform though (everyone already knows she's the best). I think she was working on some stuff never successfully attempted before by a woman in competition.I used to be big time into the Olympics, especially the Summer Olympics. I guess sports aren't really your thing then.I can get invested in professionals and/or narcissists winning and losing.
Amateur or professional I have trouble investing if I don't have a high degree of certainty the winner isn't a cheat.
Testing in anti-doping laboratories that do not have a hole in the wall is my kind of thing.I guess sports aren't really your thing then.
No, as it relates to China. My error is not more clearly specifying China as the target of my disdain rather than Japan. I still believe we are not ready to participate internationally in the Covid environment and don't believe the Summer Olympics will be the free and open forum that they profess to be.This is a joke, right?
