What's the best way to encourage my TiVo to record a "suggestion" on an HD channel rather than the SD version airing at the same time?

to my knowledge you cannot do this since you have no way of knowing what it's going to record for you. with a wishlist you can specify your key terms and HD and it should pick up the HD version.

Remove the SD channels from your guide under Settings -> Channels.

When you set up a season pass, you can specify the channel, just choose the digital channel as opposed to the analog channel.
