Suddenly,Tivo files won't play on Windows Media Player

Tivo videos downloaded this morning won't play on WMP. Why the sudden change? Been using WMP for several years, with same computer, same everything. Is there any media player that will play Tivo videos?

On Windows 10?
If so go into the Microsoft Store and search for "MPEG-2 Video Extension" then install it.

How about Windows 7?
You haven't provided any details on the nature of the downloaded file, such as whether it retains a .tivo extension or was converted to .mpg (or other), or even the tool used for the download.

If it's a .tivo file, some update likely whapped WMP's head, and there's probably some trick needed to remind WMP of the codec needed to unwrap a .tivo file.

edit: e.g.:
Before reinstalling TiVo Desktop, just re-enter your TiVo MAK (Media Access Key) in TiVo Desktop.
Sometimes Windows updates do something with that registry entry and re-entering your MAK will fix it.
The two binary keys are in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TiVo\SharingKeys, TiVoToGo Media and TiVoToGo Metadata
Just downloaded 3 tivo files, and they won't play in Windows Media Player. Files downloaded yesterday worked, but new ones today won't. Something has changed. Used same Tivo Desktop that I have for years.
Define Won't play? Is there sound but no picture? Then its MPEG4 and you need to download again with "Faster Transfer" setting enabled. In KMTTG, its TS download.

Have you tried the quoted suggestion?
The problem is only with TCM movies. They start to play, but then freeze up, can't fast forward.
