Will soon start major remodeling which requires us to completely empty one floor of the house. I have 3 tivos (2 Series 2, 1 DirecTV HD Tivo). Unfortunately, 2 of the tivos will have to be disconnected (for 4-6 weeks) from satellite and maybe 1 week from wireless.

I guess I'm wondering what will happen if I just leave them plugged into the wall. I know the SPs won't work (there will be no video source) and as long as the wireless is down, I won't get guide or software updates. But am I correct in assuming that that is the only consequence? IOW, they would just act like tivos in a huge 6-week storm when DSL and satellite service goes out. I should just be able to plug everything back in at the end of 6 weeks and they will work fine.

If they're going to be down for 4 to 6 weeks I don't see any reason to keep them plugged in. At the end of 6 weeks it will take them a while to catch the guide back up.

Since they won't record or get guide data, what would be the point of leaving them plugged in?

I guess that's the question. I thought i'd leave them plugged in as long as the wireless was up and running - just to keep the guide and SPs up to date. Rugby World Cup starts in early Sept and if the remodel is not done, I'll have to switch back and forth between the rugby box (the series 2) and the HD box (not 100% reliable and not enough room for all the games) - I'd keep them both plugged into the tv - just switch the satellite. (I currently have them both hooked up to the TV each with their own feed but that's what I'm losing when we move to the first floor).

But you basically answered my question. there would be no harm in turning them off for awhile.

The only possible advantage I can think of for leaving them plugged in is that you could watch any shows that were recorded before you disconnected them. (Of course you don't have to leave them plugged in for that, just plug them in when you want to watch something. If you do that for the DirecTV HD TiVo you'd need to press the TiVo button to skip the searching for satellites.)

If all you want to do is keep the guide data up, then put them somewhere where you can plug them in overnight once every 10-12 days. zto be sure, leave them plugged in for 24 hours when you do set them up.
