Strange new problem

Hope I am posting this is the right place.

I have a series2 Tivo DVR & Comcast with a Motorolla cable box.

Just lately, when I go to change channels using my TIVO remote from the Tivo channel guide menu, the cable box will sometimes fail to go to the channel I select. I can see it's trying to connect to the channel initially but it usually lands on some other channel instead.
If I try it with the up/down channel selection button then I can usually get the cable box to go to the channel I want after many attempts but it's frustrating. Also, Tivo is failing to auto-record my programs in some cases as it records a different channel instead. The program name is correct in the Now playing list but when I play it back it's clearly not the program it says it is. I am using serial cable & not an IR blaster.

Is this a problem with my Comcast cable box or Tivo you think?

In the past when I've had channel lineup problems (unrelated to this) Comcast has insisted it's Tivo & Tivo has insited its Comcast so I'm hesitant to ask for support until I can pin it down to one or the other..

Has anyone else had this problem & if so, how did you resolve it?
I browsed the forums but didn't see any other posts about this particular problem.

Thanks in advance for any advice..

Did that cable box come with its own remote? It certainly should have.

Use that remote and enter channel numbers manually (instead of using that remote's up/down buttons), and see how the box behaves. Report back.
Switching to IR is the only solution I know of. Recent firmware updates to those cable boxes have made them unreliable when using serial control.

From some other posts I suspect that it has something to do with SDV, but that's just a guess.
