My HR20 is playing very nicely along with the HR10.

I'm not in love with my HR20s, but I'm glad I switched--all that new HD content is great. I did keep one HR10-250 for the bedroom, but I'll probably just get another HR20 in six months and upgrade the TV at the same time.

BTW, don't you guys that run the HR10-250 alongside the HR20 find that to be a major PITA to remember where everything is recorded? Not to mention that switching between the interfaces for essentially the same tasks would be maddening.

So far I'm handling it. Both have the same recordings (mostly). I'll probably let the HR10 record the MPEG2 HD and what little SD is left, and the HR20 will be used for the MPEG4 HD. Also, that's what the NPL and List is for.

I have both, including all the great new HD content on the HR20 but we still do 90% of our viewing on the 10-250... I doubt that will chnage until the 10-250 crashes and burns or D* discontinues the MPEG2 versions of the East Coast network feeds...

But this forum definitely seemed to be sunsetting. The first page of posts go back a week when it might have gotten you back half-a-day once upon a time. I would bet there are more 10-250 related posts on DBSTalk's HR20 forum now than here...

I'm enjoying the extra content on the HR20. I'm not enjoying the clunky interface as much, though. I have my HR20 remote set up so I can control both it and the HR10 easily, so it's no big deal switching b/n the two. Tivo is definitely a more elegant interface, imo.

I switch between an HR10-250, an HR20, and a TiVo HD all with one universal remote. 90% of my recordings are on the 2 Tivos, I only use the H20 if I have 5-6 shows to record at the same time, or if I need to record a MPEG4 program. Otherwise, the HR20 is ignored.

I have one remaining HR10 running in a spare room, but I am going to make the call today to replace it. The HR20s have been flawless for us.

I concede the interface isn't as nice as Tivo. I got it. But it's not the end of the world. It works. No biggie.

Obviously if there was a MPEG4 Tivo to choose, I would use it in a heartbeat. But there's not, and I refuse to worry or stress about it. The HR20 is just fine.

Had the HR20 for a couple of days now. It's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

Major plus is that the OTA tuner is light years better than the HR10's. All of my problems in that dept. have gone away.

If you're at all tech adept, the interface is easy to get used to.

Viva more HD content!

Mine are as well. Only problem I have I don't enough time to watch all my recorded programs and having to delete them off of the HR20 to free up room.

Guess I need to get an external hard drive to add to the HR20.

But would still love it if DirecTv and Tivo would come up with a new combo box, or if Tivo would find a way to have their new Series 3 get programming from satelite.

I enjoy watching television in HD as much as the next guy, but I've seen absolutely no reason to give up my HR10-250 (yet). I just checked, and I have 30 season passes on the HR10-250, and exactly one of those programs is on a channel that I could get an HD version with DirecTV's new HD lineup. And I don't believe that one program ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia") is recorded in HD anyway. So I don't think I'll be giving up Tivo anytime soon so that I can see one program in upscaled HD.

Talk to me again when DirecTV actually starts cutting off MPEG2 HD. When the New York network feeds and ESPN go to MPEG4, then I might go with them.

The biggest benefit by far I have seen w/ the HR20 is getting to watch the Rockies storm through Sept/Oct in HD

The TBS broadcast has looked great.

I mostly miss the Tivo interface, although there are things about the HR20 that are actually nice.

However it is the content that rules and I would not trade any kind of interface for the chance I have gotten to watch the Rockies historic run in HD.

EDIT... After looking through more posts I see that channel 95 was broadcasting an MPEG2 stream of these games which I wasn't really paying attention to since I got it on the TBS HD channel (albeit some people had difficulty getting it to work)...

You know, I looked at this thread and was pleased to see how my screen stretched very far to the right and I was excited that I'd finally get to see what the darn picture looks like on a MP4 DVR and then all I saw was a darn MP4 DVR. Bummer. Where can I see all this great picture quality I keep hearing about? I go to Circuit City and Best Buy and they just have an old loop running. Circuit City guy told me that D* won't send them a new dish so they can get the new sattelite. I want to see photos. Show me or point me to the picture quality so I can judge if I feel it's necessary to go this route.

One more thing. Is it a typo in the picture above or does the HR21 really output in 1080p and not 1080i?

no 1080p so I guess it is a typo, but I don't remember seeing a 1080p reference.

<shrug> What's the point? It'll cost more money and the feature set seems identical other than the removal of the OTA tuners.

I think the only reason D* is releasing this box is because they know a certain percentage of die-hard users will pay big money and the development cost was probably pretty low.

Add me to the happy camper HR20 list. I don't miss my Tivo one bit. Having the photo and music streaming is a nice add on also. I am glad they added a screen saver option to the HR20, never understood why Tivo didn't have that. Knowing how much recording space is left is also a nice feature to have back. My Replay's had it and I always missed that feature when I switched to Tivo.

The box itself is pictured with a 1080p indicator light --- but it is probably a non-functional prototype.
