One thing you can say about this show, they borrow liberally from the Sci Fi universe. "Cap'n, I dinnae think she'll hold together!" (Paraphrased). I swear, some of this dialog seems lifted right of out classic Trek.

I thought they only had one working shuttle left. I didn't realize that there was a native American, (well, native Canuck) on board the "other" Destiny.

"Rusha?" Maybe some of the crew will want to settle in the newly discovered Caprica.

Considering there aren't any other space fairing sci fi shows left, I will miss SGU when it's gone.

They have two shuttles, IIRC:

1. When they arrived on Destiny, they had two, one with busted airlock.

2. Busted airlock one was left on the planet with the monolith with the people wanting to stay.

3. Other one was destroyed crashing into a mountainside exploring a planet

4. Busted airlock one was replaced by a "new" one when the people from the monolith planet showed up again.

5. They gained another one from the "other" Destiny a few episodes back with the 12 hour time loop.

So they have two shuttles, probably both in good condition.

Your memory is better than mine. I guess I lost one during those time loop shenanigans.

Who knows what 2000 years of genetic mixing, including natives from the local galaxy, will bring.

I almost fell out of my chair when they were surprised that the people they met on the new planet spoke English.

Now you're surprised? After all these years of Stargate, now you're surprised?!?

Having the drones follow Destiny reminded me of the early (new) BSG episode "33" where every 33 minutes the Cylons would show up.

I was surprised the drone was able to destroy the stargate. I thought naquada (sp?) was stronger than that.

I laughed out loud as well. Figured the writers were making fun of themselves, acknowledging the craziness about it that had existed for years. ( At least Star Trek had a universal translator as a crutch)

Eh? There are no humans in that galaxy, except the Destiny descendants. At least so far. I hope they don't have other plans... that's one of the nice things about this show vs. the previous two.

Yeah, this was the first time I can remember in all three shows that I've seen a damaged stargate ring. I thought they were nigh indestructible. I've seen them vaporized, and non-functional for various reasons, but a ring with a gap? I think that was new.

Once, just once, I'd like the planetary analysis to be "Breathable atmosphere. Temperature's good. Trees. Looks like Vancouver."

The whole "they're speaking English" thing has never really bothered me, but it did in this episode - a lot happens to language over the course of 2,000 years. I found it odd that 2000 years after the establishment of Novus, their language is completely unchanged. Still talking about people freaking out and things being awesome. I get that this was done intentionally as a "hey, they talk exactly like us!" bit, but it would have been interesting to see ANY differentiation.

Oops, I forgot that the Lucian Alliance were the same clowns from SG-1. For some reason, I thought they were locals.

What a great episode! Well, except for the part about the drone damaging the stargate, I thought that in early Stargate-SG1 episodes they found that very little could damage one. Hopefully the last few episodes will be as good as this one.

Go back 2000 years and you wouldn't even be speaking Anglo Saxon. Go back to Anglo Saxon and try to understand it. It is what Beowulf was written in. I took German so I can parse it out but spoken Anglo Saxon is very different than Middle, or old Modern English (Shakespeare and the KJV Bible) The Indian language would have disappeared unless they all chose to speak it. The English would not be as warped as English is now because they only had a small group on that planet but... This was still weird.

A SF story (High Crusade) had the modern descendents speaking Latin to the earth space ship they encounter. The ship is Israeli but someone on board knows Latin. But even Latin has its problems. There is a difference between church Latin (used in by people conducting modern business etc.) and Classical Latin.

So if they started on Novis with all current stargate knowledge and a guy as smart as Eli, wouldn't they be way more advanced than us in 2000 years?

Also why didn't the people who were on the planet 30 years build themselves some houses? They're still living in tents?

I wonder if there would be any way for time traveler Eli to tell how far back (or forward) in time they had gone? Starcharts or something?

Probably not. Remember, they arrived on Novus with the clothes on their back. They had no advanced technology, no metalworking capabilities, probably no library of data...just what they were carrying. OK, maybe somebody had a laptop with some info on it...which would be good for a few days, until the batteries went dead. And let's face it, these days we use our laptops to access information, not to store it.

Eli is smart, but can he build a TV from scratch? Or a saw? I'm amazed they were able to build modern-looking houses within a decade, considering they would first have had to make the tools with which to build them.

Yeah, but none of that had to be "invented" or perfected. They would know exactly what tool they'd need for a particular function.

I think my whole problem with the episode was that they arrived on Novus and there was no signs of life. With "millions" of people some would survive a volcanic winter in 30 years time. Unless they decided to completely abandon the planet via the Stargate without letting their colonies know.

And they'd have to build that tool. From scratch. Could you make a functional saw in a decade without any raw materials? Find and mine the right metals, combine them into the right alloy, turn them into a saw-toothed blade?

Probably should wait until the story's over before you complain too much. I'm sure the whereabouts of the millions will be a plot point eventually, if not next week.

I'm confused. I had the idea that 2000 years had gone by since the "ancestors" first arrived on Novis. The second planet they had been on 30 years, so I wasn't expecting skyscrapers--just more than tents. Maybe I got the time frames wrong.

Your right. They went to the planet as a scouting team. They would have some basic tools. No reason after 30 years they wouldnt have houses.

Besides who thinks a tent would last 30 years?

Yeah, the colony is harder to understand. Why would they send people to live there if they didn't already have a place to live? You'd think the workers would just commute until the initial settlement was built, and THEN they would move the colonists there.
