I agree with Rodney. What is it with Shepard and ascended women?

That said, why on earth would Shepard (or anyone) rush through an ancient portal without waiting for a full translation of the associated text. For all they knew it said "Welcome to the ancient airless waste disposal facility. Now that we have achieved Ascension feel free to use it for any of you waste."

Of course, if they'd bothered to wait for a translation the whole episode wouldn't have happened...

For some reason, this episode said that it was made in 2005 and I only have my Tivo grabbing First run episodes so it didn't record the show at 8pm. Luckily I came home and noticed and recorded the 11pm show....

Whoever does the channel guide for Tivo dropped the ball.

This episode grabbed script elements from Stargate's SG1's " A Hundred Days " and " Revisions ". Atlantis originality is suffering recycling script's from SG1 past episodes. But, this episode was slightly better than last Friday's.

I don't agree. I think this was an interesting episode. Atleast we are getting more ancients to help with the battle of the Ori. ;)

I think they should bring more people to this place.

Take a lookin in the SP Alerts forum.

Stargate Atalantis was airing in Canda about a month ago, hence this episode (and next weeks) had the North America "first run date" of December 2005, vs the SciFi First Run Date which was last night. (thus why it says 2005)

Do double check your settings for next week, as it is the same situation.

Shouldn't the first thing they did after finding out about the time dilation was to toss a note in to warn Shepard?

So how much time did Shepard lose off his lifetime?
Weir and the others said he was gone only a few hours, but I think he said it has been 6 months when they finally showed up to get him.

You need to watch Forbidden Planet to understand.
You know, I was kind of hoping that it wouldn't be that. The rip-off was a little too blantant, right down to the invisibility.

Of course the time-difference thing has been done to death as well. I guess they thought that two stolen concepts would make one original story? (actually three, since Trek did ascension at least twice...)

I was thinking Forbidden Planet thhroughout the whole episode. If that woman knew he was coming and all, why was she surprised when the rest of the team showed up? She could have saved him a lot of grief... "Look, it's going to be six months before your friends figure out a way to get you out of here, let's get busy in the meantime..."

Remind me who the "other" ascended women are?

(BTW... I've been waiting to ask this question for months! ;))
there was this woman that was left on a planet to protect her people...she was a prisoner on the planet and couldn't live free as an ascendent...she visited Sheppard on Atlantis and they had a fling...she also destroyed a Wraith ship (easily) that came to cull her planet...

Stargate/Star Trek rule: if you get stuck somewhere to live the rest of your life, there will always be a hot woman somehow single just wanting to jump your bones. She will be middle aged, good looking, a great cook, and very...um...good.

sigh... :(

None. He experienced the full six months or so.
But..but..but..

First I thought Teyla said the 3 seconds was 7 min, then later I heard 12 min. OK, I'm willing to believe I misheard the first number. She said it was 250:1, and that's 240:1, close enough.

BUT ...

They said a couple of hours on "our" side = 6 months on the other. If it's 240:1, 6 months would have been 18 hours.

So where did I go wrong with my math?

You forgot to figure in relativity. And quantum effects. And stuff.

It's not your math I have a problem with, it's more a matter of perspective.

To say that Sheppard "lost" 6 months implies that his life is somehow 6 months shorter than it otherwise would have been.

Let's say that Sheppard is the same age as Joe Flanigan (the actor who portrays him)---that means that he was born on 5 January 1967.

If Sheppard is going to die on his 80th birthday, that means that he would have died on 5 January 2047. Since he's spent 6 months in the bubble, instead he'll die on 5 July 2046. To Weir and the others, it seems like he has in fact lost 6 months of his life.

But Sheppard will have experienced every day of the 80 years of his life. It's not like he only will have had 79.5 years of experiences---he will have had the full 80 years. So to him, he hasn't lost a single day of his life...and isn't his perpsective the only one that really matters?
