Crap, could a mod move this to the Now Playing forum?

OAD 2/22/1988

Other than some weird staring off into space in some scenes, and the stupid term "Micro Brain" (which sounds like a junior high insult), this was a surprisingly good episode. The acting was top notch (although, did Wesley have any lines?), there was a good amount of suspense, and the writing was, for the most part, really good. I felt like, for the first time this season, the entire cast was finally acting together as a team.

One thing specific that I wanted to note, since we mentioned it in 11001001--that's how you're supposed to use the master situation monitor in engineering. Not some stupid digital clock, but realizing that it's really a giant viewscreen.

I still need to watch Coming of Age, which frightens me a little since it is a very heavy Wesley episode. But after this episode, I'm starting to get this hope that we're on the upward swing...

As soon as everyone stopped complaining about the threads in Now Playing, you had to start up the fire again, huh? :D
Somebody has to keep things lively around here.
I didn't remember this episode, at all, going into this episode. And I think it was for good reason... I was bored silly watching this episode and the following one. I thought that this episode absolutely dragged. I felt like I had watched a 3 hour epic by the time I was done with this one.

I liked the enthusiastic female researcher, and I liked the science lesson she delivered on how terraforming works. (However, I find the convenient way that none of the away team had any previous experience with terraforming an awfully convenient way of delivering that science lesson to the audience.)

Looks like our TNG honeymoon is over--that means we disagreed on all three episodes this week.

It was really convenient, wasn't it. Not even Data knew how terraforming works? I actually thought the science lesson was pretty poor--it was there more to setup the fact that Starfleet had classified the planet as lifeless ("Not even the possibility of life forming") for the reveal later in the episode.
Ugly...giant...bags of mostly water. Awesome!

Again, good premise but not so good execution. Same issue as the previous episode: budget. Four people working on terraforming a planet? That bugged me back then and still does. And the communication with the inorganic life form? Outside of the awesome "ugly bags" line, it was awful. Something like that was better suited for one of those Saturday morning kids sci-fi shows from the 70s.

Discovering inorganic life on a terrarforming planet could have been cool. This was a wasted opportunity.

I'm guess this was around the time Denise Crosby announced her exit. She wasn't being used well at all. Probably for the last few episodes, but I really noticed it here.
