Indiegogo campaign: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/storyville#/

We can help bring to life the story of the women of Storyville, the red light district in New Orleans during the early 20th century, as they banded together against all odds to fight the U.S. government. This concept pilot brings together some of the amazingly talented women from the Star Trek universe: Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi), Terry Farrell (Jadzia Dax), Nana Visitor (Major Kira), and Kitty Swink (Luaran) along with an incredible supporting cast from TV and theater.

Video and more details, plus the opportunity to join the crowdfunding campaign here: Storyville

I'm not sure why thery're playing up the Star Trek connection...

Because that is their primary fan base and largest potential source of support? I mean hey I'm a big fan of Nana Visitor's work on the Broadway stage and in a wide range of TV shows, and the others are very talented too, but only at Star Trek events do so many people hang onto their every word at panels and then queue up for very very long autograph/selfie lines.
How does it connect to the Storyville story, though?

I might be intrigued by Storyville but I'm not really a follower of the Star Trek arc.

It would be one thing to mention the connection among the actresses but when they present it as STAR TREK Storyville it actually reduces my interest in the project. But I'm just one guy and maybe they know where they're going as you suggest.

They're not presenting it as "Star Trek Storyville", they're presenting it as Storyville cast with veteran Star Trek actors. Star Trek actors do tons of fan conventions, and they're sometimes used as networking/marketing for the actor's next gigs (albeit with smaller production budgets).

And Trekkies show up. Back in the 90s Patrick Stewart performed A Christmas Carol one-man show on Broadway and London and it was hugely successful. And it was more due to his Jean-Luc Picard role than it was to Stewart's Shakespearean background.
@pdhenry to put it another way: this is a crowdfunding campaign, and they are tapping into that fanbase.
OK, I finally bit the bullet and backed this with a few bucks on Indiegogo. They are only at 36% funded, so there are many "perks" still available ranging from items related to this film to an odd assortment of Star Trek stuff. Also one Buffy-related item, because cast member Harry Groener was The Mayor on that show.
I received a backer update 30 minutes ago, confirming this will be a feature film not a concept pilot. Below is an update from Marina Sirtis, and you'll find full info here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/storyville...

I'm not sure what the source of the confusion is. I don't think it's arguable that for at least three of the four (Farrell, Visitor, and Sirtis), the vast majority of the fans they have are as a result of the roles they played on Star Trek.
If this were the only sort of thing people got confused about, the world would be a better place...

Groener also had a major role in a third-season episde of TNG.

Apparently he was also in Voyager and Enterprise too. This film will be quite the reunion.
I received this quick update via Indiegogo last week:
Hi All,

Thanks for your patience with us. We are moving forward with the "Storyville" feature and are starting to reach out to the amazing cast who we mentioned in this campaign to see when they are available to shoot this year.

We hope to have a more official update that has names and role confirmed, plus some additional people who have come on board.

We have also been able to get a good number of the signed perks signed and will be sending those out very soon. We will notify you specifically when we will be sending them but please know that is still happening too.

Thanks for your support and we can't wait to update you more with exciting news soon.

Best,

Christin
Unsurprising update via Indiegogo: production of this film is delayed due to the virus crisis. They were going to start in May, but the producers and cast have agreed to wait. Shipment of backers' perks will be delayed as well.
