I know, the universal translator is a piece of handwaving magical technology...

...but it's still impressive that the 22nd-century version has been having no problem with 32nd-century language. Maybe we just didn't see the part where it downloaded 980 years' worth of software updates.

Actually, it wasn't working so well. A couple times natives spoke in another language and we (but not the time-traveling characters) got the translation.

I know I said in the Episode 1 thread that I was done with Discovery, but I have watched all three episodes now. Episode 3 was good. Not great, but better than the first couple of episodes and lots better than the second half of season 2. The negotiations between Earth and Wen had just a bit of TNG flavor to them.

It seems to me that Cleveland Book Booker has denied connections with Earth and Star Fleet to an unnecessary extent.

I would not be surprised if it turns out that he is a former Star Fleet officer born Cleveland, Earth.

It's also possible he doesn't know he has connections... maybe his parents were originally from Cleveland.

Grover Cleveland and Booker T Washington gave addresses at Carnegie Hall in 1894. Funny what a little googling can turn up!

Michelle Yeoh must be the happiest actress in the galaxy. What a fun part she gets to play. "Diplomacy is so slooooow."
She's so awesome. Here's a classic scene of hers!

This is probably why I actually felt this episode was pretty lousy. Too much of the clean TNG way of solving all problems with a couple of waved hands, and suddenly everything is conveniently forgotten and we all get along. It's just not really believable (and yeah, I realize the irony of saying that in a show where the space ship warps by a guy on a mushroom high and we've traveled way into the future).

Oh, look.
It's Mini Reno.
(Yes, I know that the actor identifies as non binary.)

We'll see if Adira adds to the snark factor.

Also, Discovery shouldn't have had any synthehol on board as it's an invention by the Ferengi that the Federation had no knowledge of in the 23rd Century.
