I'm a "snowbird" in Florida with Spectrum/Britehouse service currently with two cablecards/TAs in service. In preparation for going north and restarting service in Kentucky I'm told that Spectrum no longer issues cablecards. I closed my account when I came south and according to them I can't get them back (but if I'd held on to them that would apparently not be a problem). Anyone know more about this? With the current rash of deregulation has the FCC requirements been relaxed enough to allow them to not provide them?

UPDATE: OK, so as I was typing this I was on hold with Spectrum and ended up with their "retention" department somehow. She said that she sees nothing that says they no longer support/issue cable cards and that she can send them and that, when I'm ready to restart service to call her department directly. This is almost comical.

I'm in Louisville and got a CC and TA from Spectrum back in December. I just dropped in local store and picked them up, it was no big deal. Now getting them installed was a different issue. First Technician didn't have a clue. Second one was great. Luck of the draw I guess.

That's been similar to my experience. I've been coming down here since 2017. When they raised the rates for their "seasonal hold" (specifically for TV, "for my convenience" - yeah, right!) I started dropping service in Jan and restarting in May. Last May I was able to find the cards and TAs in store(s) after going to three or four of them. This past Jan when I turned everything in at Outer Loop (which is still a vary basic location) she said they "don't carry them" any more. I didn't really put much stock in that comment, though. At least not until earlier today. We'll see what happens.

I spoke with someone in Spectrum video repair and he repeated the "no more cable cards" line but indicated that those in use will continue to work "at least for now" but once service is discontinued like I did then they seem to be saying bye bye TiVo users!

I've never bothered to have a tech come out either in KY or FL. Not worth the hassle and they know nothing about them. I just pick them up and call video repair to have them synced. Takes a while sometimes but has always worked so far.

I would think that Cablecards are here for a while. Why? Well, Uncle Donny hates liberals. Liberals who own NBC?Universal/MSNBC?Peacock?Comcast. So if it is against Comcast's wishes to retain Cablecard, Cablecard will stay. At least until Dr Mengele is out of office; which may very well be another 4 years. I know...I dont like it either but our country has many many stupid people in it. Stupid people who vote ..and carry guns to state houses...and dont social distance cuz "its their right". Its also their right to go home and infect ma and pa and the wife/sister/cousin.

There are similar threads about similar no CC but apparently that is against FCC regulations for them to get rid of them and not support TIVO. Search other threads about how to report to FCC
I've seen a few threads here and there about this but I couldn't really find anything recent. And given the changes this administration has made - or tried to make - it's difficult to know what the current reality is.

The reality is the cable cos. will say "NO" to CableCards, but within a very short time after filing a complaint with the FCC (very easy to do on-line) the cable cos. call you back profusely apologzing and saying it was an unfortunate misunderstanding, but they are now ready to see to it you get your CableCards and get your TiVo's up and running on their system ASAP and they will have thier best people on the case. Results are resolution with TiVo's functioning on your MSO, and pretty darn quickly, at that.

Those threads you looked at should have a link to the FCC relevant compliant form. Fill it out and file the complaint and then the Earth, Moon, and Stars shall be moved for you by your local cable co. The FCC complaint is the hasse free and quick way to get your TiVo's working with you cable TV service when you encounter little or no movement from your cable co.

Spectrum telephone support still has a senior tech team that can handle CableCard requests. Most entry level techs in my exp have always transferred me to the apropiate people. It is the local / luck of the draw with Spectrum these days that is frustrating.

My exp with spectrum at new house / texas
Tivo 1: Had to get CableCard from McKinney and get tuning adapter (one left) from Plano.
After 3 hrs on the phone, TA and Card were finally working.

Month later trying to activate a 2nd tivo and card.

McKinney office had two cards left, both did not work. Plano had no more tuning adapters for two weeks. Waited, picked up TA. It has been 6 months and I still cant activate a second cablecard.

Took a month to get 2nd TA activated with a solid light. But after 3 cablecards, i still have no working 2nd tivo with paired cablecard after troubleshooting once a month with spectrum. I gave up because last couple times during the repairing / back-n-forth they would sometimes disable my first tivo that works fine which would cause more hours of troubleshooting to get my primary tivo working again. It is a hassle, the experienced techs are disappearing, it can takes hours and hours to activate a single tivo setup, and inventory is never a sure thing when you need THEIR tuning adapters to work with THEIR cablecards.

While FCC requires it, cable companies sure do get away with this nonsense.

Despite all this, still love my TE3 expierence over any cable company DVR or streaming TV exp. YouTube TV is the only thing close to a fast tivo like interface for skipping/rewinding. But of course you don’t get nearly the same channels as you do with CableTV. Even if most of them are irrelevant these days

I think most defective cable cards are not defective, but not configured correctly.

I moved a cablecard to a different Tivo and spent 4-5 days and hours on the phone and a truck run. I had the name of a special tech that was supposed to get it fixed. While on hold to talk to the tech, the lady that answered the phone asked what was going on. While waiting for tech to get off phone she looked at the account and said something to the effect "I see what is wrong" and suddenly it stated to work.

If the person on the phone cannot get it to pair within 10 minutes ask to be transferred to somebody else or hang up and call back. They are not trained on cablecards.
