Hello,

I'm about to order a new Edge for Cable for use in NYC. Anyone here living in NYC that can tell if Spectrum is still supporting Cable Cards and TAs in NYC??? I know that in some parts of the country it is becoming very difficult to get a cable card and TA from Spectrum. No point is spending a small fortune for another TiVo if I can't use it in NYC.

Thanks

I don't know about NYC, but I have yet to see any confirmed reports of Spectrum no longer supporting cable cards/TAs.

If you're interested in saving money, just get a used Roamio with lifetime. They're going for around $200. Heck, I'll even sell you mine for that (plus shipping). I also have a Mini to go with it if you're interested. Seriously, PM me.

Two different Spectrum Techs (including a supervisor) recently told me that Spectrum is dropping support for cable cards and TA's now that the FCC no longer requires the cable companies to provide and support those items. I was told the same thing at a Spectrum Store when trying to exchange a non-functioning tuning adapter. It is almost impossible to get a cable card and or TA here in Columbus, Ohio these days..... That is why I am hoping to hear from someone with Spectrum in NYC before I replace my aging Roamio.

I still don’t put any stock in what techs and even supervisors say about cable cards. They said the same thing to me over and over at least a decade before the card mandate went to away.

Having said that, cable card is definitely not long for this world. There’s no way I would buy any cable card devices at this point. So it doesn’t really matter if you get a thumbs up or down from an NYC sub. You’re just buying a ticket on the Titanic.

Why don't you order or go by a Spectrum store and see if you can pick them up before you order a Tivo, they are only a couple of bucks a month.
