I am struggling with it. I've made it through episode 6 and am undecided if I am going to finish it out.

It just really isn't funny to me. And I LOVED The Office. It looks like lightening doesn't strike twice for Greg and Steve, IMO.

And I don't know what is up with the voice Steve is using. It is weird.

Maybe the problem is that you're expecting the Office...

I think it's really well cast and well done. This is an incredible cast that can only get better as the show matures. The issue with Netflix is the entire "season" is dropped and so there's no time for a mid-season correction/refinement. I expect the next season (I hope it's renewed) to be excellent.

Yeah that's not it. I really enjoyed 'Upload', which was another Greg Daniels joint.

This just seems to be like an SNL skit where they have the smallest of ideas (Space Force! Hilarious name!) and then build around it. And then stretch it to last a whole segment.

ETA - I don't *hate* it. I made it halfway through. It just isn't making me want to rush back and catch the next one. It isn't must-see-tv, IMO.

I love, love space stuff. Fictional and non fiction. This show is not sci-fi, its just insane ****. It's written by people who obviously have zero interest about real space/rocketry/orbital mechanics stuff, you things Space Force would do in today's world, instead have the most insane plots that just goes for immature laughs, which in some shows I admit work, in this show not so much for me.

This is real turn off the brain, and just consume for laughs type stuff... Keeping any functional nuerons firing will kill your enjoyment when you so what nonsense it is..

This series came as an almost total surprise to me, my knowing very little about it. And I enjoyed it immensely, especially as a Summer enjoyment and with current circumstances at various levels, including yesterday's space docking.

Essentially, for me, a low-key, "Dr. Strangelove"-like satire, with elements of "Airplane!" and television's "Soap"; and with a killer second episode centering on a chimp in space.

:up: I wish that the original order had been for 20 episodes rather than 10.

Things that bothered me:

Superluminal communication with the moon base.
Joshua trees in Colorado.
Use of "24"-style image enhancement. (But they hung a lampshade on it; so okay...)

Things I particularly liked:

The "tech wizard" conning everyone with a perpetual motion machine. (Seen that too many times IRL.)
The Joint Chiefs, when actually tasked with doing it, being the adults who realize they're being asked to commit a war crime. (Except for the Air Force twat.)
Never telling us what Maggie did to get incarcerated.

It's a shame about the cliff-hanger, though. I don't expect it to come back.

There's no WAY this lasts only one season given the investment Netflix has in it - and the sheer amount of time it likely took to re-team Carell and Greg Daniels. Carell's per-episode salary set a new record for television talent, so Netflix will presumably want to give it at least one chance to course-correct before writing it off.

And who knows how much course-correction it will actually need? We're not the target audience...I wonder how it's being received amongst real people? (I.e., less educated, less geeky. More...normal.

I don't know, the situations are obviously outrageous, but the interpersonal stuff of the core cast seemed a lot more natural and way less trope-laden than most.

Finished it tonight. I still thought it was great. I wonder how many people are bringing a lot of preconceptions to the show instead of just taking it for what it is. There's a lot of comments out there like "I only LOL'd 3 times in the first two episodes"... maybe it's not the kind of show that is going for the big LOLs. Maybe it's just going for some fun and smiles.

I thought it was funny and charming, and was able to poke fun at everyone and everything while still not making anyone feel made fun of (at least IMO). The relationship between Naird and Mallory was, I thought, deftly done and compelling.

I mean obviously the "science" is ridiculous but ... who cares?

Normally I would say definite season 2 but with all the bad reviews, and I've been hearing that it's not doing well in the Netflix rankings... color me worried.

I'm a couple of episodes in. I find it humorous but not really funny although the chimp in space bit did make me chuckle.

This exactly!! I said to my son this reminds me of Dr Strangelove. This is not meant to be a true Sci Fi show with realistic science and so forth. It's complete farce and in MANY ways it is much more of a political commentary than a Sci Fi show (and if you follow anything with our current political situation, you'll even recognize the play on names for many characters). Yes it's mindless, but I'm enjoying it much more than I expected to after reading the bad reviews. I'm so tired of "serious" comedies. I just want to turn my mind off and laugh sometimes.

It's not meant to be realistic. Did you really expect that?

To me, this is the kind of show that, if you don't read the reviews, people would enjoy. It's why I take most reviews and reviewers with a grain of salt. This isn't a real "modern" style comedy with a bunch of dark characters doing insane stuff. That's what critics like these days. The characters are more in the vein of Silicon Valley (which was definitely technologically more accurate...but we had arguments about the tech there too). It will be a real shame of the critics kill this one.

Exactly...it seemed to me that the reviewers went out of their way to be critical of this. To me, they went off the deep end just to attract attention to themselves.

Netflix is notorious for not giving out ANY information on viewership...

I'm halfway through and this gets better with each episode. Everyone is great in their roles. I was rolling on the floor at the end of the lunar experiment episode when everyone was wearing FLOTUS's gawdawful uniforms, especially Brad wearing sweatpants emblazoned with the redesigned Space Force logo on the backside. Will probably be done with my mini-binges before the weekend.
