Hello - what should the output settings by on my TiVo Roamio Vox OTA going to my Sony A9G Oled? I have had them on Auto, which is what the TiVo box recommends, but everything is in 1080i. Does Auto, let the TV do all the upscaling work?

Or should I have manually select, 1080p, 1080i, 720, which then shows the right setting on the tv.

When I select 480p too, SD definitely looks worse than when it was set to 1080i.

Just was not sure if there was a way to pass through, so the TV decides.

Sorry, if a dumb question. :)

This is close to what the video selection screen should look like:
Gadget Font Output device Computer monitor accessory Display device

Notice on the right that it indicates what your TV likes. With TE3 my Roamio thinks my Sony 40W400B likes 1080i, but with TE4 it says 1080p. You can (with TE3) select both then use the zoom button to switch. Personally I can't see any change, but my TV is 1080p. Also, my Sony does a good job at 1080i, so that's what I feed it. Just remember the TV will always display the output of your Roamio at 1080P no matter what you send it.

Check all boxes to let the TV "decide". Also, "Pass through" applies only to streaming content, like from the internet.

I have a 43X800H in a box I'm going to install next week. I'll need a new picture. :)

Upscaling is when you have the resolution set higher than the show's. You should test the resolutions and see what works for your TV.
Set it to the highest the TV can handle. It is not upscaling if you set the multiple resolutions.

I have my Roamio set to just 1080p, even though OTA is at 480i, 720p or 1080i. A single resolution also prevents the TV from constantly adjusting the resolution every time you change channels and its different.

Thanks. Really wish I could just have it pass through to my A9G to do the upscaling. Sony has a great processor and since it is 4K, I guess I should have mine set to 1080p too. Prefer true pass through though.

You get "pure" pass through when you check all the boxes except Auto.
