Some Tivo Replacement Advice South

Not to keen on buying a Premiere. The kids are using a standard TV (no HD), and no cable card needed. I am paying $10 a month for service. I don't want to go to $15 for the kids to watch standard TV.

Should I invest in a new hard drive and just keep the series 2 going?

What's the model number of that Series 2?

It might be the drive or it might be the power supply getting marginal.

I took a look at Craigslist in your area

to see if there were any likely donor candidates and with the exception of only a few listings, including this one

which would give you an HD XL for $50 (pretty much the price of the 1TB hard drive inside), or 2 for $100,

people down there seem to overestimate considerably the worth of their used TiVos.

Seriously though, you need to rule out the power supply as the problem.

They do have states between perfectly fine and dead.

Also, if somehow the power or data cables to the drive have somehow loosened at one end or the other, that can cause gray screen as well.
