Software Update - unable to select OK button

I have Tivo Premiere, and have been using for since the beginning of this year.

I have been getting the "Software update notification" dark-grey, box pop up every 24 hours. There are two buttons in this box - "OK" and "Cancel"... Cancel button is highlighted.

I can NOT get my remote controls to do anything on this pop up box...I can not select "OK", I cannot move the highlight... my remote acts as if it's dead. Then the "software update" notification box disappears and I have to wait for 24 hours for it to reappear.

But my remotes are not dead. I have 3 remotes that all work... on my Tivo Premiere, when I am watching TV or shows, all functions work just fine. It's only when this pop up box appears, I can't do anything.

1. How can I highlight the "OK" button and click it to make the software update start?? Am I doing something wrong? are there buttons on the Tivo unit itself that I should be using?

2. Alternatively can I initiate the software update any other way, can I force the update to happen, without waiting for 24 hours? note: I have tried to force the "Connect to Tivo Service" many times in a row... that connection happens just fine, but the new software update does not reappear.

Let me know if there is something I can do..

I've never seen an update box like what you are describing from any of my TiVos. I think you may be seeing an upgrade notification from your TV. Is it network connected? Next time you see the box, try the TV's remote, or check the TV's menu for a selection to manually start the update.
Tivos update automatically. They download the updated software during a regular "daily call" when it becomes available and then at the first 2:00am after that or earlier if the Tivo is restarted for any reason, the Tivo automatically installs the update.
There is no gray screen as you describe. As rcobourn said, it's probably your TV.
Like above this sounds like your TV. My Sony will have something like that every so often but I need to use the Sony remote to choose.

This does not sound like a TiVo update, but one for your TV.
Brilliant all!!! Thank you... never occurred to me it was my TV... the program I was watching, stopped (or so I thought) while this message popped up... so I assumed it was the TIVO... DUH!!!! :eek:

Exactly what I was looking for, too!
As I was explaining this to the Comcast cable guy I realized I hadn't tried my (Samsung) TV remote, either.
...waiting anxiously with my 'other' remote for the next 24-hr pop-up... :cool:

...or not...checked my tv menu and updated... thanks rcobourn for the enlightenment!
I want to thank all of you, as I have been fighting with my TiVo every night at 10pm and all it was just my TV! (Samsung too!)
