Maya is very good at everything she does, especially Kamala Harris. I wonder why they put one of her other episodes in prime time last week instead of this week? That would have made more sense to get people interested.

It took me five seconds to know Jack Harlow wasn't going to be someone I wanted to hear, but then I had never heard of him anyway.

On the subject of music, I liked the music in the awards show sketch. There was also a musical number that had a Latin sound in another sketch, if I'm remembering correctly. I think Kate was performing in it.

I especially enjoyed Sidney Powell's appearance on "Weekend Update". Cecily was insane.

It was nice that they acknowledged Passover. I hadn't considered that Kamala Harris might celebrate Jewish holidays because of her husband, but he doesn't have what sounds like a Jewish name to me.

It seems to me that the past few shows have been really bad. Not sure what the writers have been doing wrong but some acts are just too drawn out. But the high point is still the weekend update. I had a hard time trying to under stand what she was saying in two of her acts.

I thought this episode was mostly good. Maya Rudolph is very versatile. I thought it was weird though that she acknowledged that her four kids were in the audience and then did a skit with two references to her bending over with no underwear on, exposing her naughty bits. As usual, I had 0% interest in the musical act.

The Passover sketch was funny, Martin Short really went for it, grabbing Maya and, it looked like, surprising her a few times-when Chloe Fineman came out as fashionista Ella Emhoff, I about died laughing. "She's serving matzoh, I'm serving looks!" BA HA HA
Ted Cruz bringing cupcakes and pork! CLUELESS as usual.
Raphael Warnock bringing Manischevitz and going to have a "nosh!" too cute.
Then Joe Biden making it rain with 'stimmies!' LOL
And of course Marjorie Taylor Greene spooking Major and then he attacked poor Doug! (and p.s. as a Jew, I can tell you that Emhoff is a very Jewish name)
The Beyonce Hot Wings sketch was OK, too long, of course-and the news was funny. I also liked the NFT short film. Pete Davidson plays the "dummy" but I think in reality he is quite smart.

It was mostly meh, but I liked the Passover bit (and Martin Short as the First Gentleman was great) and I liked Weekend Update this week. The rest was just OK and unmemorable three days later. Didn't like the musical act, and tried to listen both times. First time it took about 5 seconds, second time, because the song started out kind of like a real song, I listened a bit longer, but once the rapping started, I was out quick. It just grates on my last nerve.

I like a lot of SNL episodes, and defend it against the prevailing "oh it was better X years ago" sentiment.. (watch ENTIRE episodes of any season and there are good skits and bad skits)..

But even saying that, this episode was pretty blah for me. Weekend Update was funny as usual, and there were a couple of ok skits, but nothing *very* funny. As much as I dislike rap, the NFT skit was funny.

I'm tempted to say it was better when Bill Hader and Fred Armisen were on the show. And I missed a lot of their years because I started watching when the prime time reruns began, and soon realized it would be a simple matter to tape the episodes when they first aired. They weren't around long after that.

But we currently have Beck, Yang, Kate, Aidy and Cecily.

Yang said he was more than just an Asian in this episode, but the fact is you want an Asian when you need someone to play Asians. Otherwise that's an entirely different criticism.

I agree with this. I was under symptoms of my second covid shot when I was watching so I wasn't sure if it was me or the show but it just missed badly. And I also am a defender against the older show was better nonsense. Sometimes they just get a clunker and this was a clunker.

I think there were good casts and bad casts, and if you watched some of the specials about SNL they acknowledge that. The original cast was great (and it had to be for the show to be successful), then they had that weird year after they all left that was pretty bad. Then they brought in the Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscapo years when the show was really good again. As with any type of TV show, the cast often makes the show. The year or two when Billy Crystal was on was great for example. The Mike Myers / Dana Carvey years were great. I think it dropped off for a bit after that (was not a fan of the Will Farrell years and actually stopped watching for a bit.) I didn't watch too much of the Tina Fey/Tracy Poehler years, but have seen some on reruns and it was mostly pretty good. And I think the current cast is really good.

That's one thing I think they've always done a good job with is trying to stay young and hip. In the 1970s they made fun of the generation of the 1940s and 1950s and went all in with the "rock and roll" life style, not being afraid to talk to the drug culture, and so forth. Not to mention that unlike the weekday talk shows, they would more often than them have rock bands as acts. Today, they definitely play up modern culture. That bit was the perfect example. Their use of Hip Hop music in at least one bit a week is part of it and of course they've skewed away from "old fogey" acts and have more relevant acts on as musical guests. And it's also come to a point where, I don't even know who 20% of the hosts are anymore. This is not a BAD thing at all. I'm fine with some of these bits going a bit over my head (but I also have kids who are younger adults now who "get it"). I'm not the core demo they are going after. And that's fine. Still plenty that's funny even for an old codger like me.

That was the ending of the sketch where Maya visits the bar in the studio and talks to Tina and Rachel is in the bath tub. That whole sketch was a parody of The Shining.

That's how the movie ends. After Jack is driven insane by the haunted hotel, he freezes to death. Then, the camera cuts to a shot inside the hotel showing a wall of old photos from the hotel's past. It zooms in on one photo from a party that happened decades earlier and you can see Jack amongst the guests at the party.

It was Maya Rudolph in that picture, and most definitely edited in. If I remember correctly, they replaced Laraine Newman with Maya.
