Who ARE these people?

I was certain I would skip over his musical group, and then I saw them just singing as I fast-forwarded ... no, that's the junk I absolutely want to avoid. The singing I might have been able to live with, with the proper background instrumentals. Same when the man sang by himself later.

The host started to sing during the monologue and he was good and the song was good. So were the whaling crew and their shanties.

The host is also a good actor and it's a shame he has to be connected to that show. The sketch about his show was only funny because of the clearly inappropriate people chosen to make sure everything was done in a tasteful way, which made sure they weren't.

It had to be more than a coincidence that while the cold open was hosted by someone imitating Britney Spears, the classic episode in prime time was hosted by Britney, who was also musical guest. She is so adorable as long as i don't have to hear her sing. And the actress playing her captured that image perfectly. She hasn't aged in all these years, or so it seems.

I found it weird that Aidy played Ted Cruz and even said she was a woman.

I enjoyed "Weekend Update".

There was so much that I didn't enjoy.

This might have been the worst episode of the season.

First of all, never heard of the host, but he's from the popular Netflix show Bridgerton. I may have seen him in other places too, but not sure. With that said, did they scour the streets of NY looking for women who would squeal at this man's every movement? That's what it felt like (and if this had been an attractive woman who was hosting and guys in the audience whistled and hooted at her every movement, there would have been hell to pay on social media). It was embarrassing, and it HAD to be embarrassing to the host.

The musical guest, well I also never heard anything he's done (though after I posted in the previous thread that I had never heard of him, the name kind of came back to me that I might have seen him somewhere else), I thought the first song wasn't bad (and I liked the woman he was singing with). The second song after a few seconds I ended up fast forwarding. The rest of the show was terrible, with WU only mildly better than the rest. I like Pete Davidson's bit about having to move out from his mom's house. That was the funniest part of the whole show. And the cold opening bit ran WAY too long. I had completely forgotten it was the opening bit, until the "Live from NY....".

I actually thought it was the best of this current batch, but that’s not saying much. Regina King was good last week and you can see that’s she’s a good actor, but the show itself along with the ones ahead of it felt flat. This one at least I laughed hard a couple of times. The ones I can remember were the job interview at the PR place and the Britney Spears one.

Overall it’s been a while since I remember any new sketch (that wasn’t in a Mulaney episode) standing out to me. It’s been a tough year and half and I’m sure that has something to do with it. And new episode again next week. I think this makes 5 straight weeks with a new episode. So there’s probably more wear-and-tear than usual that’s making it hard to come up with something special.

The gentleman who hosted - wow, what an extraordinarily handsome man! I was not at all familiar with him, having never heard of him. I also loved his singing voice.

I didn't get a whole lot of laughs out of this episode, though.

I was also completely unfamiliar with the musical guests. The woman had a great singing voice, though. Can you tell - I love a beautiful singing voice! :)

He was on a short-lived legal show called "For the People" which gave him little to do - but he did do a fine American accent and I had no idea he was British. The sketch this week with Ice Cube faking a British accent was cute.
I was soooooooooooooooo hoping for a Black Jeopardy! sketch (was hoping for one with Regina King too) but the dueling prayer families sketch was funny too....with the fans and the microphones and the tambourine and the Soul Train tribute and Beck Bennett doing the worm and all-LOL!
Agreed with what others have said-he has a fine singing voice-maybe they can incorporate that on Bridgerton-since it's going to be on for EIGHT YEARS! (whoo hoo!)

Both Bridgerton and the For the People are Shonda Rhimes shows. He said on Graham Norton that Shonda wanted the same acting ability but with a British accent. She didn’t know he had a British accent when she was casting Bridgerton.

Just from SNL, it was obvious how talented he actually is.

Oh, I liked that show.. (though I had to look it up to make sure I wasn't confusing it with the OTHER legal show with the woman from the Marvel movies.. Peggy something is the character in Marvel.. Hayley is her real name)..

basically, there were a couple of short lived legal shows (even sometimes taking the "side" of an issue that I wouldn't take, and I still enjoyed the show) in recent years that I thought were good.. (but I don't like ALL legal shows.)

My kids have played that Olivia Rodrigo song so I was familiar with it and therefore found the pool hall sketch more amusing than if I hadn't heard that song before. Loved them making fun of both Ted Cruz and Andrew Cuomo in the cold open.

Mostly, at this point, I watch the show for Weekend Update, and the occasional musical guest I like.

Once in a while, they knock it out of the park with the pre-taped segments, and sketches. Especially if Keenan is in them. Which is surprising, because so far his sitcom has been disappointing.

I do wonder if pop culture has passed me by when I don't recognize the guests.

I get the same feeling. I know it probably has when it comes to musical guests. But for some reason this week's host just seemed "Not famous enough" to be a host of SNL. Usually the hosts of SNL are very well known. But like you said, maybe I'm just out of touch. I've recognized all the other hosts and all have good name recognition. This guy I had to look up. Is Bridgerton THAT popular? I guess it must be. I'm not a Shonda fan, so I have little desire to watch that show.

I haven't seen it, but according to Wikipedia:

With a viewership of 82 million households, it has become the most-watched series on Netflix.
Then I guess it is! I must be REALLY outta touch. But of course I'm the guy who has heard of a lot of more current actors but couldn't pick them out of a lineup. So what do I know?

I thought this episode was the best in a while. Even the usually not funy skits during Weekend Update were funny. I had no interest in Bad Bunny and fast forwarded through his songs. I first heard of him a couple of years ago from an NBA All Star Weekend celebrity basketball game.

I forget whether it was this week or last week or whether I have already said this. On "Weekend Update" it was stated the restrictions on sports events had been lifted and I didn't think the Jets joke was that funny. My idea was they should have said, "That won't actually help the Jets because their low attendance has had nothing to do with the restrictions."

Except the Jets sell out every game. Now later in the season some fans don't show, but they've already bought tickets.
