Well, I gotta say I think the writing overall for this episode was very strong, the only thing that stuck me as being exceptionally weak was Crab Blast, mainly because they telegraphed the punchline, though exactly how they carried it out did get me to chuckle, the turning off of the light, that was a fairly good ending to it, come on though, who couldn't see after the first minute that there was no crab?

Strong cold open, with an animal actor, and they pulled it off, I was impressed with that.

Zooey's singing monologue was excellent, she can sing, and it was funny, and it didn't drag on, well done.

The Clint commercials were awesome, especially the second one with the twist ending, very funny.

Les Jeunes with Jean!? Holy crap that was awesome!

Daily post was great.

Then on WU the Arianna impression was excellent, and GITC with Nick himself, fantastic.

Bein' Quirky. Honestly I thought Zooey was playing herself until she showed up as the other woman. And the Michael Serra impression? That was great, just great.

Loved the Verizon commercial.

Loved Nicolas Cage with Nicolas Cage  :p and Les Jeunes de Paris is always fun in a quirky kind of way, plus Nasim Pedrad always looks hot in those sketches.
Knocked it out of the park!

Awesome episode. So much better than last week's lame fest.

Having a good, smart, and funny host helps, but the writing in this episode was also top notch.

I laughed a lot at every sketch! Even Crab Blast was great. Yes, as SeanC says, within the first few seconds of the sketch it was obvious they had no crab, but it's not the first sketch where part of why it's funny is that you see the punch line coming a mile off. Good comedy writing can make such a concept very funny. (EDIT: This was sort of an American "The Cheese Shop" sketch.)

I absolutely love Les Jeunes de Paris. As soon as I saw the "France 3" logo on the opening of that sketch I was very happy. Perhaps, the pure joy of that sketch, early in the episode, simply put me in the right mood to laugh at the rest, but whatever it was, I enjoyed this episode of SNL more than I have enjoyed one in quite some time.

Finally, I'm trying to decide if the dog barking uncontrollably in the cold open was planned, or not. If not, Jason Sudeikis did an awesome job of improvising around it. I'm thinking it's possible that a very different ending to the cold open might have been written, but the dog started barking at something off stage and Sudeikis just rolled with it.

I thought this was funnier than the average SNL episode. Glad to get some validation from my fellow TCFers.
I record SNL every week, but seldom watch it. Looks like I will have to watch last night's episode. Heck, I probably would have anyway, just because of Zooey.
Loved Nicolas Cage with Nicolas Cage  :p
A thumb up and a raspberry...

That's high praise!
I didn't have a TV last night, and I don't care for Zooey. Are there parts I shouldn't miss?
The beginning, middle and end were the best. I didn't care for Karmin's music, but I thought she was kinda hot.
Bein' Quirky. Honestly I thought Zooey was playing herself until she showed up as the other woman.
Did I miss it? Who was Zooey in that sketch?

Wow: I guess I really did miss it.

Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of Zooey either. I don't particularly like the show "New Girl", and I have given it a chance.

But my opinion of Zooey went up last night.

She. Killed. Everything she did on that show was spot-on and totally hilarious. Got to give credit where credit is due.

"Bein' Quirky with Zooey Deschanel", where Abby Elliot played Zooey and the real Zooey played Marry-Kate Olson was excellent.
I don't get Les Jeunes de Paris.

It's not that I dislike it. I just don't get it.

Watching again here, it's obvious.

I'm not home right now, but I think the above clip has a different Mamma Cass song. In the live version it was "Dream a Little Dream," which it wasn't here. It must be from the rehearsal show.

It's just pure mindless, plotless, stupid joy.

And it seems that a lot of real European shows, especially those aimed a teens, are just as inscrutable.

I love it!
Better than average episode. Zooey was great and I enjoyed Karmin. One of the funniest lines I thought came from Weekend Update.

"A Michigan Judge ordered a man to take his wife to dinner at Red Lobster for Valentine's Day. Red Lobster Where people are sentenced to dinner!"

OMG-THIS!

When "Zooey" and Mary-Kate made their eyes real wide, (the real) Zooey's resemblance to Mary-Kate was harrowingly spot-on!:p
"I like your coat"
"It's an electric blanket-I'm freezing ALL THE TIME" ;):D

Also loved "Les Jeunes" (I LOVED The Artist") - Taran Killam kills it every time! I love him!:D
What a difference from last week. Very strong episode.

Being Quirky was excellent. And though I think he's the worst actor in Hollywood, kudos to Nic Cage for participating.

That line got me too. Considering how much they advertise, let's hope they have a sense of humor.

Or they changed it for the Internet version because they didn't want to pay for "Dream a Little Dream."

Wonder if Kristen Wiig will be doing an impression of the singer from Karmin next week.

My cat was very interested in the barking dog in the cold open:

Hah! One of my dogs barks non-stop at anything remotely canine on TV. She can hear dogs barking, of course, but she can also see dogs when they're not making noise. She can even recognize cartoon dogs when they're not making noise. And she can tell non-dog canines: last week there was a story on the news about coyotes taking small pets and they showed some footage of a coyote in someone's back yard: there was no sound (just the reporter's voice-over) but my dog was in a frenzy and it was definitely different than the normal "there's a dog!" bark. My wife was upstairs in bed and she said she was going to come down and check on things because she could tell by the dog's bark something was different/wrong.

It's funny, but also kind of annoying.

Our other dog has absolutely no idea what is going on and just looks bemused by the whole thing.
I loved Les Jeunes de Paris, adding in Jean Dujardin was great. It was really impressive to see him late on Saturday in NYC for SNL and then Sunday night in London for the BAFTA awards.
