I have mixed feelings about the monologue. Some of it I liked, and some of it I didn't.

I didn't have to decide whether to fast-forward through a band called "The Strokes". I did stop briefly to listen in each case and decided I was right. Now for music (not lyrics) that I liked, there was the souvenir shop sketch.

"Weekend Update" was pretty much what it has been, but wow, what an anti-Trump message.

I wish the tribute to those who helped had been done without Kate's apparently homeless weirdo. Also, they said things were bad in the summer, but spring was the worst.

I admit I laughed at the joke about his 94 y.o. "Nana" who he said he didn't think should be allowed to vote - "You don't order for the table when you are about to leave the restaurant" - that was mean, though- but funny! The jokes about the "old man contest" were hilarious too! :D

And Kate's character wasn't homeless-she lives in a rent-controlled 40th-floor walk-up so when she's out, she's out! :p

Mulaney-hosted episodes are usually good, and this didn't disappoint. His monologues are usually the best part, since it's essentially watching his standup act. I especially liked the part about things like sleepovers will continue to happen with him going into detail about the bullied girl waiting to be picked up and the host dad having to awkwardly wait with her, apologizing for her daughter being a b*tch and taking after her mother.

Also, the New York tribute was perfect. Including Kate McKinnon's eccentric New Yorker.

I liked the line (paraphrasing)..."They call themselves the greatest generation because they defeated the Nazis. Well we're trying to fight the new Nazis if you'd just get out of the way."

Also, I can't stand Kate McKinnon. She does the same thing in every sketch and its not funny. I like other one-note comedians that others hate so I get its a personal preference.

I enjoyed it. I liked the NY sketch. I liked the Baby Yoda bit during WU. I liked the Strokes, but I think the sound mix that NBC has for these bands is terrible. Last week the woman who sang had her mic muffled so while you can tell her voice was good, it was too low. Same this week. John Mulaney is always great.

I thought the same thing especially with the music. I could barely hear the singer enough to understand him. Maybe its my old ears.

It wasn't that good. Even the opening to me wasn't as good as the others.
I agree. This is the first time they've broadcast 5 live shows in a row without a week off and I think it showed. The writing just wasn't as crisp as it could've been. Had this not been an election year, having Mulaney host a week after a break probably would've worked better.

Not sure if this is the right thread to post in, but could someone tell me if there was a skit/sketch between the New York Musical (the souvenir shop) sketch and the Meme sketch? Not the musical performance.

Just want to make sure I didn't miss anything. (The end thing, where they hug and everything while saying goodbye, was cut off on my broadcast with a commercial. So having local stuff cut off things isn't totally out of the possibility.)

The sound was terrible on The Strokes songs but the new album is great.

I think the performance number in the Mulaney shows has passed it's sell by date.
No way! That's become the annual highlight of the Mulaney episodes. I hope they keep doing it for years.

Well, next week we know it'll be a rerun.

Oops. Wrong thread. This is last week's episode.

So as I post this, next week will be a rerun. There was no way last week's could be.

That was it, according to what I found.
