SNL - 1/30 - John Krasinski/Machine Gun Kelly

I haven't seen it yet but someone needs to start it.

I already know I can skip over this musical guest.

The 10:00 episode had someone called "Faith No More" and even if you fast-forward through it, it's pretty obvious someone like me would avoid that.

It's a little hard to believe John Krasinski hadn't hosted before (while "The Office" was on the air).

The most curious thing about this episode was that they did a whole sketch about marketing Subway, and didn't mention the scandal du jour (the lawsuit filed accusing Subway's tuna salad of containing no tuna).

I know those "ten-to-one" sketches can be very hit or miss, but the "Ratatouille" sketch that was in that position was my favorite sketch of this episode.

When I hear "Machine Gun Kelly," I think of the radio DJ and occasional actor first.

Isn't that because Subway is the sponsor of that sketch?

HarleyRandom, honestly it says all I need to know about you that skip artists without listening to them based on looks and name.

I like very few of the SNL musical guests, but I thought that Machine Gun Kelly was surprisingly good.

I almost always FF through the musical guests but give them a short listen and I always think, "What are these people on the TiVo boards talking about? The sound is fine!" But I thought the sound Saturday night was TERRIBLE! It was fading in and out and I couldn't take it and just FFed through both performances.

LOVED the "bubble" sketch and it shows how great the crew is-perfect recreation of Pelosi's podium and the fur cape and horn-hat.

The creepy twins-jeebers! Mikey Day was especially haunting! DALE!

I enjoyed the cold opening too-when Mikey Day said, "Is my chin beard working for you?" And Kate McKinnon said, "It's working at keeping me a lesbian!" BOOM!

The Supermarket Sweep was a little over the top, and I can't believe they didn't have Jon K wearing a goofy sweater like the host used to wear! But his lack of gaydar was hilarious!

All in all, some good laughs.

Really looking forward to Dan Levy and my fellow QUEEN Regina King!

To me it was an ok episode. But I was surprised with how much material they could used since last episode and didn't.

I skipped Machine Gun Kelly's first song but watched the beginning of the second song. I had to rewind the brief part that I saw because his voice sounded like a cartoon voice. I stopped at that point. Anyway, I dislike guitar players whose guitar is slung down around their knees anyway. It's an indicator that you care more about how you look as opposed to what you play.

I thought it was just OK. The first half was much better than the second, but honestly, 2 days from it, I barely remember much about the episode, which tells me nothing really stuck out. I'm not an Office fan so the monologue struck me as unfunny, because maybe I didn't get the context. I remember John from playing Jack Ryan on the Amazon Prime series, which is probably the first place I saw him.

As for the music act, I never heard of Machine Gun Kelly before and assumed he was a hip-hop artist (and indeed when I googled him that's what came up), but was surprised to see him do two songs that were essentially grunge, I sort of liked the first song, the second was not great but his overall act is kind of over the top. Not someone I'd want to listen to more of (and what's with all the pink!).

Looking forward to next week with Dan Levy.

That was a great sketch. It seemed weird until I realized this is actually their first episode since then. I'm amazed no one realized that was a a super-spreader event and that each offender had violated the bubble.

Yeah, I suppose. What was really funny was how they kept showing up again.

Lesbian couples weren't "normal" back then and there's no way Ellen DeGeneres was in a photo already taken with Portia DeRossi. And I keep thinking something else was wrong because it was supposed to be 1991.

I never had the desire to watch that show but over the weekend I finally had time to watch Steve Carell playing a white, older, and not nearly as smart Steve Urkel type in a movie called "Dinner for Schmucks". He is hilarious!

This isn't the first suggestion I've seen that that sketch was paid product placement for Subway, but I feel like they wouldn't have made Jared Fogle references if Subway really was paying for it.

yeah that's weird.. The songs seemed 'rock' but when I just looked it up, he's called hip-hop/rap. weird.

I guess there's no reason you can't do both styles. I just didn't expect it.

but I mean the part I listened to, it SOUNDED like rock.. so I downloaded and cut out just the musical performances. The minute I hear rap or 99.9999% of country (most country songs I hear on talk shows could EASILY be pop songs by just taking the twang out), I delete the recording.. (i.e. don't need to keep it to download the musical segment)

Oh wow. I have never heard of that movie but it seems like great casting.

Actually, the subject doesn't interest me but it sure sounded like a good choice for playing TL.
