SMASH... who's excited?

I watched the extended preview for SMASH today. Originally I thought this was a GLEE rip-off, but now I see it's got a fairly different (and interesting) story line. Steven Speilberg produces it.

And it has American Idol Katherine McPhee :D

I think I'll set an SP for it. Debut is Feb 6.

Didn't Spielberg help produce the lifeless turd that is/was Terra Nova?
Well if it's not a Glee rip-off I might take a look at it. Since I really don't like Glee :)
I'm really interested. I'll have to TiVo it though... it's on at the same time as Castle, and I watch that live. (Sorry, NBC... you move it to a more sane timeslot, and I'll consider watching it live too.)
I will give it a shot since it is not a Glee ripoff and may have an interesting storyline. I hate it when shows premier after the Superbowl because you have to pad like heck to get the entire episode.

The promos are very confusing. It's not on directly after the Super Bowl, it's on the Monday after the Super Bowl. The Voice has the post Super Bowl slot.
I'll have to keep my eye out for this. The preview looks interesting.
Watched the preview. Liked it.

I'll watch.

May I call it Fame 2?

Probably much closer to "A Chorus Line" than "Fame."

I had the opposite reaction to her being in it. I just don't like her much.

We'll probably watch at least 1 or 2 eps to see if we like it.

OK,not after the Superbowl. Good, but I do watch The Voice so I will still be padding. Depending on what I am doing that day, I may have the game on and make a manual recording during the after game show.

Hmmmm, does that make it a 3-way conflict with Castle and Hawaii 5-0? :(

I suppose I can just torrent H50.
My excitement level on drivel like this is a -100+.

:)
I have a Tivo HD with two tuners and I can take the show I care the least about and use my Tivo 2 to record it but I suspect that I will not have a three way conflict.

Aaaand there it is. My bet is that you have neither watched the preview nor even bothered to find out the premise of the show, and yet you call it "drivel".
It has Katherine McPhee in it.

Of course I am excited.

Its not a Glee ripoff since it's not about a glee club. But it still has singing. And probably just in situations where it is appropriate. :)

Preview was watched...

Synopsis read (zzzzzzzz):
The show revolves around a group of characters who come together to put on a Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. But before that can happen, the people who will try to bring it all together must deal with their own personal acts. The series will feature original music by composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
Review of actors done.

All adds up to more mindless network drivel IMO...bet it barely makes it through one season.

Not exclusively. They have said they will take a few opportunities to have fantasy sequences and other excuses to do non-stage performances... but the impression I get is that it won't be like Glee where the songs drive the writing.
I watched the pilot on Hulu this week. I was totally enamored of it. I can hardly wait for it to start. I immediately went to put in a Season Pass, but it's not in the guide data yet.

I had heard nothing about it (missing this thread the first time around) and just saw it on the Hulu login page, where I was after watching this weeks "Once Upon a Time", which my DVR for some unknown reason did not record.

I do not watch Glee. But I absolutely loved the musical numbers in this.
