As far as season premieres go, this was easily the best one Smallville has ever had, and the best one of the ones I've seen this season so far.

The first four minutes were absolutely jaw dropping for me, with some awesome effects...especially as far as TV standards go. To quote the kid, "Woah!"

Yes...yes, I know....someone isn't really gone. But hell, we have to have someone to trash in this show! :)

The first time they really showed us Kara on top of the water tower, she looked a little sickly. It must have been the lighting? But then they cut to her again and she looked like she had some life in her. I look forward to seeing more of her...it should bring a new angle to this show.

I'm truly geared up for this season...if they hold this momentum....wow!

If you are putting off watching this and were even remotely a fan of this show, get watching!

I loved it, and it does look like Kara will be an interesting turn. But I learned long ago not to trust Smallville season premieres as predictors of the rest of the season's episodes. Every year, Smallville seems to have the best premiere and finale episodes of any other show - and varying degrees of crap in-between.

That said, I saved the premiere episode to rewatch this weekend.
If you are in hiding, taking on a new identity, wouldn't you actually CUT AND DYE your hair, as opposed to just wearing a wig?

What's really strange is the absolute SILENCE I've noted on the web since the thing aired.

Even the people who watch it and constantly complain aren't saying anything. This'd be a positive sign, except that nobody's praising it either, except here.

I've got to try a few more boards....see if there's any life out there...

By the way...

Since when does an entire flood disappear because you evaporate the leading edge of it? I mean, didn't all that water have a lot more coming right behind it?

And with her facial features, she really made a convincing blonde, didn't she? :p
Shouldn't have Clark used his freeze breath on the water as opposed to his heat vision?

And I'm assuming that it was the Martian Manhunter who took Bizarro out of the atmosphere and onto the Sun.

Good season premire except that Lana is still alive.

And wouldn't her black hair blend in more than a blond wig in China?!?

Line of the night goes to chloe(paraphrasing) "He can fly?!? You really should jump on that one"

God, the superspeed running is annoying at this point.

They were probably afraid people wouldn't recognize her.

(And I suspect a certain number of people probably didn't until she took off the wig...)

Somehow, that scene really brought out her Asian heritage; I'd never really noticed it before.
How can a wig that's not even shoulder length cover hair that goes below the shoulder?

I thought this was a strong episode. Unlike a lot of shows (*cough cough* TNG *cough cough*) they didn't cop out in the premiere after a cliffhangery finale.

Some fun new elements. I hope lex obsesses over his "savior" for a while.

I guess they felt smallville viewers were too dumb to understand bizarro speak?
ya first 56 minutes were great,,, last 4 not so much.

Well, sure, but they live in a world where Superman + glasses = utterly unrecognizable. :D
I'll bet, to remain incognito, she changed her name to Lana Wang. :D

I was thinking the exact same thing. I was ready to see a huge ice dam form.

Wouldn't enough heat to vaporize that much water have started a forest fire in the trees all around the flood?

Dammit, Philosofy, you made me choke on my breakfast! :D

Great season premiere. Absolutely stunning in high-def.

And yes, Clark really should get on with the flying thing. I'm not sure why the producers are holding him back -- they might not have had the F/X budget when the show began (hence the "no flight" part of the "no flights, no tights" mantra), but they certainly seem to have it now.

First faint glimmerings of the Clark-Lois romance there?

Evaporating the floodwaters, instead of creating an ice dam, made absolutely no sense -- did he dry up the entire 1,000-mile river behind it?

When I first saw her, I thought "Rana Rang!"

Great minds...:)

Which caused massive clouds and rains for weeks, flooding the rest of Kansas.

Didn't we unequivocally establish last season that nothing need make sense to be in a Smallville episode, or was it nothing that made sense was permitted in a Smallville episode? Whichever -- same concept.
Maybe they just forgot to put in the special effects for the trees burning and rain clouds :p
Maybe it doesn't matter to the show? You guys dissect things too much. :)
The hero did something heroic. Good enough for me on Smallville.
