SlingBox and Multiple TiVos

So, my TV has only 5 inputs, ergo, I have 5 TiVos hooked up to it. One S2 (coax), Two S2DT (rear composite), and Two with DVD (one front composite, one rear component)(7 tuners total), and yes I need that many.

I have been traveling a lot for work lately, and am considering getting a Slingbox or two. I would like to access at least 3 of these Tivos and a fourth would be nice.

Can anybody tell me how many devices a single slingbox can control, and how difficult it would be to hook up? How exactly do they wire in with the TiVos? Can you have two Slingboxes, or will that cause network problems? I realize that I only need to control a single TiVo, and I can watch shows from the others via MRV, But, I would like to be able to delete shows from other TiVos.

Lots of people have great things to say about Slingbox, and it would probably be perfect for my needs, but, I'm not finding a lot of information for beginners about how to choose and set up the proper one for multiple devices like what I would use. Most of the Information I have seen seems to be aimed at people who are familiar with Slingbox, and goes way over my head.

Thanks for any useful info that you can provide me with.

P.S. I would want access to the two D2s (remote code 2&3) and the two with DVD (Toshiba), but, I could live without one of the DVD units if I had to.

I have an older version of the Slingbox Pro/HD (with the HD dongle), but I think the current version is the same with 3 inputs (one HD and two non-HD). I honestly haven't seen much difference between the two even over local WiFi. You can even do an S-Video in on the Pro (the one I have) so you could control 3 of the boxes.

There is also a cheaper SlingBox Solo I think that just does one input, but that is fine from a quality perspective. I use the Component and Composite outputs from my two TiVo's into the Slingbox and it works great. Downside is no IR 3.5mm jack, so it uses IR blasters to control the two boxes. The Sling can handle remote codes up to 4 I think, so you should be good with codes 2 and 3. No issues having two on the network, they don't stream unless they are connected to.

Yeah, some of the older slingboxes have at LEAST 3 inputs. You could probably even use the coax output from the oldest Tivos to get a fourth.

Wow 5 TiVos on one TV. I thought I was nuts to have *3* Tivos and a XS32 hooked up to one TV. (S3, Tivo HD, series 1, and XS32.. at the moment the S3 is dead, the Tivo HD is acting flaky, but the others are working fine.)

the higher end Slingbox models can control multiple devices, however, I'm not sure if you'd be in setup hell or if it's even possible to mimic "(remote code 2&3)" as all of the slingbox signals are sent via "ir blasters"

The Slingbox IR database can be upgraded to support alternate TiVo adresses. The JP1 forum might help.

My Slingbox Pro is set up to control two TiVo boxes. They have discreet TiVo codes 1-4 built into the software. They are currently plugged into the component and s-video inputs. I could add two more via the composite and RF inputs if I wanted. I'm not sure if the RF input provides for IR control, since I have never used that input.

I have the Slingbox Pro-HD and it only has one Component input. However if you don't might viewing non HD content, you could also use the S-Video and composite inputs. It also has a digital antenna input.

A Slingbox Pro only comes with a two headed IR blaster. Adding the HD Connect will add a component input/output and comed with a four headed IR blaster needed to control the third device. One thing to note is the Slingbox Pro only streams in SD while the Pro HD streams in HD which can overload some modest computers. The Pro model is easy to identify as it is red.
