Perhaps it had bad skip data.

TiVo appears to have automated the indexing process. Like Comskip (and for all we know, it is based on Comskip), the system cannot recognize promos because they include the same logo and other details of the show like aspect ratio. For some shows, usually chopped-up reruns, failures to recognize normal commercial break beginnings and ends may occur as well. On Channels DVR I can easily go into the web UI and edit those out with a few clicks, but maybe for TiVo the one good thing that will come out of this is that they will begin adding skip to many more shows like their competitors.

I've had a few shows lately where the skip was in the wrong place.

I've been wondering, for a while, if there are entities that pay to have their ad in the last spot before the next segment of the show and have the skip stop right at their ad so you end up either watching their ad or having to FF through it.

Ads right before and after a show are often more expensive, but that's always been the case based on viewer behavior like getting up to grab a beer during the breaks, and more recently the manual dexterity of commercial skipping DVR owners. I seriously doubt TiVo gets any money for helping with this; the simplest explanation is the most likely, and as all know all too well that is likely down to TiVo's, um, technical limitations.

Yeah, you're probably right. :)

Not only have I seen all of what's been described above but some breaks are not skipped at all and auto skip might be on some breaks but "Press D to skip" is on others on the same show. Like I said in the other skip thread, it appears they used the same brain dead engineer who designed TE4 to redo the skip system. Bring back the Skip Monkees!

"Here we come, walking down the street..."

(pop culture reference for the younger set - the theme song from The Monkees) :D
