After being away on business for several weeks, I returned to this unusual problem.
I have 2 Series 2 Tivos from which I use the Tivo Desktop software to download programs to my home PC. .Tivo files play back just fine after being downloaded from one of the Tivos. The strange thing is that .tivo files from the other Tivo only have the right audio channel enabled. Any ideas what might cause this?
