*sigh* Oh TiVo

Well, DirecTV are really REALLY tempting me with their HR20/HR21. It's just... SciFi in HD!!! And BSG about to start again... man, I just can't resist that!

That, plus my HR10 is now rebooting itself randomly and keeps resetting my channel list and trying to record stuff off wherever it wants to and NOT recording things I told it to...

*sigh* I really, REALLY hope that some day there'll be a new HD DirecTiVo box. Heck, if there were any reliable rumours about there being one in the near future I'd probably hold off!

So, uh. Anyone have any reliable rumours? (;

Do they BSG on Universal HD channel? I think they used to show some.

They did last season, and I think they were about 3 months behind or something. I'm not waitin' 3 months!
I've decided to buy a DVDO Iscan VP30 video processor to scale/de-interlace standard definition channels and keep my HR20-250 instead of getting the HR20/21 and loosing Tivo. I did not like the new HD channels enough to loose Tivo. I guess I am lucky that I don't like the SciFi Channel as much as you.

No kidding. That channel WAS the clincher. They'll eventually move all HD content to MPEG4, but hopefully by then they'll have a new TiVo box.

Heck, if I wasn't getting an HR2? for free I'd probably think about it some more. But I'd /pay/ for a TiVo box, and hopefully I'll get a chance to do so!
I hate it when my TiVo is loose. :p

November for BSG is just a 2 hour prequel. The series does not start again until January.
I'll have to look again, but I got something in the mail from comcast letting us know that we would be getting SciFi HD and some other channels at the end of this month.

I have yet to see SciFi HD actually show anything in HD! They are showing things in Letterbox but so far nothing in HD. Dunno if that will change or not....

Stargate Atlantis, Flash Gordon, and several movies, Including this last Saturday's movie were all in HD. :) :)

I know. I'm purposefully letting myself think it's cooler than it is so I don't write a nerdy angry letter to SciFi.

Cause you know that they'll make us wait till Jan and then split the season again...

You are going to feed it a garbage SD signal and scale it to HD resolution? So it will be garbage at a better resolution.

Yeesh! I just hope he didn't pay the retail $1,400+ for it!
I took my HR20 out of the box and set it up on top of my HR10, only due to USA and Scifi in HD. Stargate Atlantis looks great and I remember seeing BSG on the HD channel and it looked great also. Using the HR20 only when I have too and with HD Scifi I have too.....

What's an HR20-250?
I made the switch and received my HR20 this week. As far as I am concerned the HR20 is superior to the Tivo HR10. The UI is fine, fast and clean. Being able to stream photos and music to my DVR is a big plus. I still have audio dropouts on my NY locals (not OTA). Since this was an existing issue with my HR10-250 the problem is something other than the DVR.

I love the double press of the record button to setup a season pass, talk about easy!! It also has defaults that are retained like record first run only or all episodes. You also don't loose your picture or sound while setting up a season pass. External drives are also supported for easy drive upgrades. VOD is also coming, many have the beta firmware and use it. The VOD uses the ethernet port to download the content from your broadband provider.

The iScan VP30 is $2,000?

It would upconvert an 480i SD picture to 1080i?

A lot of the content on the new HD channels is still SD that was upconverted by the content provider. We are told that they use state of the art upconverters that cost 100 of thousands of dollars. Still read those forum at dbstalk.com and avsforum.com to see what users think of even the best upconverted SD.
