If I only turn on my wireless router about an hour a day (just emailing and surfing) due to electricity and security reason, would the TiVo Wireless G USB Network Adapter work for me. I wonder how often the TiVo wirless Adapter “calls in” to update guide info.

If you only turn on your WAP only an hour a day, it wont work. I ended up using a 50' cable to the living room with a gigabit switch. Much more efficient - same price.

What do you do now?

Your router needs to be on wired/wireless.

Purchase the adapter an be happy.

You can use WPA, it is secure with a good key and other precautions (turn of SSID, use MAC filtering)

Leave the router on, it doesn't draw significant power. Its not like its a 50s vacuum tube model.
