Shameless S02E01 Summertime OAD 1/8/12

I think the change from winter to summer changes the whole show. Glad it is back.

It does change the show, but not in a bad way in my opinion. Now we get to see how they handle the kids not being in school and such. I thought it was a great season opener.

Now there is no suspense over whether Frank will freeze to death passed out on the ice somewhere. But they do mention that everything they do to make money is with an eye to how they will survive the winter.

Too bad Jane Levy got another job.

I shotgunned my way through season 1 this weekend and thought Mandy looked different.

I wonder if Steve/Jimmy is gone for good. Having him around sometimes felt like a cheat to me. Too often the lazy writing solution to Fiona's financial struggles was for her rich boyfriend to step in. He didn't always, but you knew he could so some of the tension was removed. If he comes back I'm afraid he will confess his true financial situation and then it will no longer be a show about Fiona trying to keep her family from the brink because she will have a benefactor.

Of course he's not gone for good. There's too much drama there for him not to be.

In a teaser for a future episode, Fiona calls him.

I don't know that it was the lazy writing solution. She pushed back against him all the time. She already knows he's rich. She wouldn't take him on as a benefactor. As she said in this episode, "The Gallaghers pay their debts."

As far as the episode goes, I'm curious to know what her time was (at the track). My hubby (formerly on the track team in HS) said that she had the form of a runner, specifically a sprinter. He was laying odds that those were the actress's own track spikes. :)

She said Gallagher's pay their debts in this episode but that is a new stance since Steve left. She never said anything like that last season. She never paid him back for the washing machine he bought. I think he bought them the hot water heater after the one Lip got from the dead woman was stolen. He has also given her cash.
I say when the rich boyfriend bails them out, that is a cheat by the writers. It is an easy out. It negates one of the main conflicts: that these people are just barely surviving.

That said, I love the show!
ETA: not to mention the house he bought her!!!!

She is different season 1 played by Jane Levy who is now on Suburgatory and now Mandy is played by Samantha Siddall.

And if you remember, she tried to give them back. She never asked for the money from him, and it hurt her sorely to take it. If it weren't for the kids, she wouldn't do it at all.

I'm not making a judgement of her, I'm saying it is a cheat on the part of the writers.
