I just setup a Tivo Mini Vox. It's 'paired' with our Tivo Romio Pro running series 3. I followed the setup and downgraded and it works great when connected via Ethernet.

However, I failed to plug in my Tivo WiFi 5 USB adapter in to the mini and set it up before downgrading. Ugh.

Is there any way to upgrade the Tivo Mini Vox so I can setup the wifi, and then downgrade again? I've tried manually connecting to force an upgrade several times but it never happens. I'm guessing the Mini knows it doesn't need to upgrade because it's paired with a series 3 Tivo. I've tried erasing everything on the mini but that didn't force it to upgrade.

Any ideas? I'm wondering if my only option (I don't want to upgrade to series 4 software) is to get a wireless bridge and send the USB adapter back.

I don't know if this worked for you before, but TiVo says:

What's new in version 21.9.6.v5 for TiVo Experience 4?
This software version includes the following features and enhancements:
  • TiVo USB Wi-Fi 5 Adapter Support - Updates to the user interface to support wireless setup and management on TiVo Mini VOX when using the TiVo USB Wi-Fi 5 accessory.
While it's not explicit in saying the adapter only works with TE4, it does need TE4 to configure.

I saw that too. Thanks. I'm trying to upgrade to TE4 but now that I've downgraded the mini I think it might be too late. I'm guessing if I upgraded my main Tivo to TE4 (something I do not want to do), the mini might then see that and upgrade. It seems with the way I want to set things up, I had one shot at it and messed it up. Not a great user experience in my opinion.

You would have to have a TE4 host to have a TE4 Mini. It's automatic for the Mini to match its host. There are other wireless Ethernet adapters that work. I'm using the RE6500 right now. Most important is how good your router is. It's all about the $$$.
