Hey there.
I just bought a 180-hr Series 2 DT.
This is my first Tivo.

I get basic cable at home with all the normal channels I need.
I also get one International channel on Dish Network.

In the welcome setup I managed to easily configure the cable however I can't do dish network.
Again I only need one channel so I don't need to use the IR blasters... it keeps asking me if it successfully changed channels so I just said yes or otherwise I can't move forward.

Will the tivo ever try to tune to a different channel by itself on the dish (it can't cuz the ir blasters aren't hooked up)?
I know it gets all the movie trailers or whatnot from a certain channel but will it get it from cable or from dish?

Does it recognize the channel from the Dish receiver?

What I would do is remove all Dish channels, except the one, from the channels you receive list.

Depending on the Dish model, you might have a problem with the receiver going into screensaver mode so you end up recording an hour of the bouncing logo.

Yea I did that too... so I hope I'll be fine.

I also made that channel a favorite.

Also the receiver has 2 outputs (1 tuner only) and one goes to another tv upstairs... so we already did set screen saver off.

However I want to record channels and it says it's still getting program info for the past hour (or more)

It can take quite a while for the TiVo to organize when first setting up.

after manually updating it twice I was able to get all the programming

I still need to add home media features and actually activate the tivo.
