I have two S2 units, and just purchased an S2DT unit to replace one of my S2s. I am going to transfer the service from the S2 to the S2DT, and had a few questions about it.

How long does the S2 stay active after its service is terminated? Can I still watch recorded shows on it? Does MRV/TTG still work on it? I have a solid 10 or 20 hours worth of recordings on the S2 that I'd like to either move to the S2DT or back up on to my computer, or at the very least, be able to watch. Moving it to the other S2 is possible, but it's very slow as one is on a Linksys 802.11b wireless, and the other is ethernetted.

Any help is appreciated :)

The transfer is instantaneous. As soon as the S2 calls home and get the status update, it will no longer have any service.

You can still watch shows that are already recorded, but you can't transfer any shows to or from the box without service.

I decided to get clever and use my router to block the S2 from contacting the internet, and hopefully it'll stay active for a little while longer while I'm using MRV to move some stuff around, but meanwhile I'll activate my new S2DT once I finish wiring up the living room.

That will only give you a week or so.

It should be enough. I only need about a 24 hour overlap really, since I convinced "her" to delete all the TLC and HGTV things she had saved up, as they're repeated about 20x a week.

Question along the same vein:

Is there a limit on how often one can transfer service numbers?

Especially back and forth among the same units.

Like the unit that became a brick a couple of months ago, re-switches with the unit activated at that time?

To further explain, I have a 540040 on lifetime, and a Toshiba SD-H400 on msd monthly. I just purchased a 64080 dual tuner and plan on transferring the msd over to it.

The Toshiba has Basic service so it can still do vcr type recording but no network transferring. If I discover I have shows on the Toshiba I then want to transfer off periodically, can I re-switch service with the dual tuner to do so?

Never heard of one. I've transferred service between a couple of units twice, so I know it works more than once.

I'm not sure why Tivo would care, so I don't see why there would be any restriction/limit.

Thank you very much.
