Hi,

I have a Series 2 DT Tivo. I am looking to buy a Western Digital 500GB Ide drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136111

That one is pretty cheap.

I am going to use Instacake & that drive & dump my old 80gb drive in favor of the 500gb one.

Will this drive work or is it to big? I remember if you went above 250gb (back in the Tivo days) that you might have a problem.

Thanks,
Rich

If you have a working Tivo drive, you don't have to use Instantcake.
Just duplicate original drive to the new.

If you use older mfstools, include -r 4 to get around that "273GB bug", when you are doing restore.
If you us MFSLive Linux boot CD, you don't have to include -r 4 as that bug is fixed.

You can also try WinMFS if you have a windows xp sp2 or later OS.
